  • Network Protocols: BGP, OSPF, STP, 802.11, DNS, DHCP, NTP, SNMP

  • Network Technologies: 802.3ad, 802.1Q, Cisco VPC, LACP

  • Network Monitoring and Management: Infoblox, Intermapper, Cisco ACS, Cisco ISE, Cisco Prime, Splunk, Statseeker, Scrutinizer

  • Hardware: Cisco 3750/3850, 4500, 6500, Nexus 5k, 7k, 9k, Cisco ASR, Cisco 9800 Wireless Controllers, Juniper SA SSL VPN, Palo Alto Firewalls, F5 Loadbalancer

  • Scripting: Shell scripting, Python, Ansible, and Rest API

Position Description:The Network Engineer performs advanced design, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure systems and services for Harvard Medical School. Reporting to the Associate Director of Network and Data Center Operations, the Network Engineer works closely with the Network Architecture team, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure optimal network performance, security, and reliability. The Network Engineer also participates in network planning, project management, and documentation of IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate is passionate about building great things, is both innovative and methodical, and is team focused. The position provides great customer experience to our research community, students, faculty, and staff.

Core Duties:

  • Design, install, and configure mission-critical and scalable network infrastructure, including devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPNs.

  • Rack, stack and configure network hardware where needed.

  • Monitor and analyze network performance, availability, and security using various tools and protocols.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, such as connectivity, latency, bandwidth, and routing.

  • Contribute to the establishment of network policies, standards, and best practices.

  • Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Perform network upgrades, patches, backups, and migrations.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to users and IT staff on network-related matters.

  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers on network equipment and services.

  • Research and evaluate new network technologies and solutions.

  • Prepare and maintain network documentation, such as diagrams, inventories, technical specifications, and procedures.

  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

  • Ensure adherence to IT standards and service level objectives.

  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct
