AMHERST Full time, academic year (10 months) position, grade 13, $13.79 per hour Coffee House Night Server supports the efforts of Dining Services to provide the campus community with excellent and courteous service. The Server assists the retail team with the production, and implementation of menu items and services. This individual takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College?s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. The work schedule varies and corresponds to the College?s retail operational needs, but generally is Friday & Saturday 5:45 pm to 2:15am, Sunday & Monday 3:45pm to 12:15am. A flexible schedule with early or extended shift times is sometimes required. This individual may be asked to work in other areas of Dining Services based on operational needs. Key Responsibilities Counter Service Provide professional counter/customer service Enter accurate orders into the register and follow established cash handling procedures Prepare menu items to established standards including adhering to standardized recipes and production methods, ensuring recipes are followed, and all items are of the highest possible quality Maintain the coffee station and beverage coolers Sweep and mop floors, and wipe dining room tables Ensure equipment used is in sound, working order; and tools used are properly cared for and stored Perform work in a safe and efficient manner; ensure operational organization at all times Supervision Supervise student employees in absence of Shift Supervisor Stock Pull stock from downstairs store rooms and Valentine Dining Hall as needed Rotate perishable and non-perishable food products Grease and trash removal Qualifications Required High School diploma or equivalent Allergen Awareness Certified, as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or be able to achieve within six months of employment 1+ year of retail & food preparation experience Strong verbal and written communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills Ability to taste and work with any and all ingredients used Strong time management and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and function efficiently in a fast pace environment Attention to detail Preferred ServSafe Certification or be able to achieve within six months of employment 2 - 3 years of retail & food production service experience Environmental and Physical Demands Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 50 pounds. Limited lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying over 50 pounds with assistance. Exposure to walk-in freezer and cooler, and wet and greasy floors. Frequent exposure to sharp tools, machinery and cleaning chemicals. Constant repetitive motions involving a range of full body use including fingers, arms, knees, hands and wrists. Requires constant walking, standing, bending, squatting and stooping, reaching including outward and above head, and ascending/descending stairs. Manual dexterity including grasping and manipulating tools/equipment, and adjusting controls. Close visual concentration including the ability to perceive color, contrast, and depth is also required as well as the ability to taste and work with any and all ingredients used.
