State of Massachusetts Clinic, Refill and Prior Authorization Nurse in Boston, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) seeks a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our diverse team of mental health providers at our thriving state operated community mental health center dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality mental health services to the residents of the Commonwealth. In this role, you will play a vital part in enhancing the well-being of our clients by providing essential nursing care services, medication administration, and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure the highest level of patient care. Your responsibilities will encompass facilitating medication refills, obtaining prior authorizations, offering psycho-social support, conducting assessments, crisis intervention, and overseeing the clinical aspects of nursing services. As a valued member of our interdisciplinary clinical team, you will contribute to fostering a safe, therapeutic environment and promoting the psychiatric rehabilitation model of treatment. _Duties and Responsibilities (These duties are a general summary and are not all inclusive):_ * Facilitate medication refill requests and process prior authorization for medications and treatments. * Administer medications and provide comprehensive nursing care to clients. * Supervise nursing staff, assigning, and overseeing their duties for optimal patient care. * Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care strategies. * Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all clinic clients. * Respond effectively to medical and behavioral emergencies, administering necessary care and medications. * Provide patient education to ensure compliance with medication regimens and understanding of potential effects. * Foster relationships with pharmacies and laboratories to streamline patient care processes. * Contribute nursing insights to interdisciplinary discussions and uphold the center's mission. * Evaluate patient needs and collaborate with external providers to ensure timely access to care. * Conduct counseling sessions, both group and individual, based on patient needs. * Ensure adherence to professional nursing standards in all aspects of care delivery. * Collaborate with contracted billing and laboratory services to facilitate accurate billing. * Serve as a Mandated Reporter and adhere to agency policies for critical incident reporting. _Required Qualifications_: * Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Massachusetts. * Familiarity with various types and characteristics of drugs utilized in addressing physical and mental ailments. * Demonstrated understanding of diagnostic procedures applied in nursing practice. * Skilled in maintaining accurate records. * Proficient in both following and delivering clear and precise oral and written instructions. * Strong capability to read and interpret documents like physician’s orders and treatment plans. * Experienced in establishing rapport with individuals from diverse cultures, races, and lifestyles. * Adept de-escalating individuals who are undergoing physical or emotional stress. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Extensive experience in nursing, preferably in a mental health or healthcare setting. * Prior experience in a community healthcare or outpatient setting. * Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems. * Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to effectively supervise and guide nursing staff. * Experience in crisis intervention and handling behavioral emergencies. * Knowledge of medication interactions, side effects, and best practices for patient education. * Familiarity with insurance procedures and prior authorization processes. * Excellent communication skills, for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders. * Active involvement in nursing associations and professional development activities. * Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams. * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
