The Market Development Manager (MDM) is a strategic execution role with specific responsibility for creating access, program development and administration, investment management and communications across key educational institutions and other identified regional accounts where services and solutions are being offered. In close coordination with Professional Affairs, Sales leadership and other commercial functions, the MDM will serve as the subject matter expert and relationship manager for these identified customer groups, guiding the development and implementation of non-product based sales activities. The MDM must be able to conceptualize, develop, plan and execute a comprehensive business strategy that supports customer needs and develops customer groups in a rapidly changing marketplace. Through development of coordinated business plans, the MDM will serve as point for all customer-facing activities within the identified accounts and lead JJVC efforts to build new capabilities consistent with customer needs and the evolving marketplace. The MDM must be a seasoned, professional leader with a strong sales and service background and demonstrated success in building and executing targeted customer strategies. A solid understanding of optometric training, ECP practice management and industry trends is essential for success in this role with advanced skills in written and oral communications, influence management and strategic planning paramount. The primary customer base consists of, but is not limited to, administration, faculty and students at optometric teaching institutions; practicing ECPs and office management; regional retail vision centers; and, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) administrators and members. Further accountabilities include achieving monthly, quarterly and annual goals tied to investment/budget/ROI; program development and execution; and, new product access. Further support of key regional initiatives can also be expected.

The MDM will develop comprehensive strategic business plans for both near and long-term growth while identifying and developing customized opportunities by customer that include differentiated product, services and promotion. The MDM will need to understand and assess existing customer business models to further develop commercial strategies. The MDM will maintain and direct key investments, including projection and monitoring of ROI metrics. The MDM will position and deliver economic and value-based solutions to decision makers. The MDM will need to to understand and manage unique stakeholder needs in a variety of educational or practice settings. The MDM will partner strategically and actively with the Field Sales, Marketing, Professional Affairs and Customer Strategy teams. The MDM will leverage trends and real time market information and develop programs that lead to profitable growth

The MDM will be responsible for influencing and generating customer behaviors that align with, and are mutually beneficial to, attaining the goals and strategies of both JJVC and the customer. The MDM will establish key strategic partnerships across a wide range of stakeholders, including doctors and administrators. The MDM will build and maintain a database of key customer contacts.

The MDM will develop field execution plans for customer programs and promotions, coordinating with Professional Affairs and field resources. The MDM will develop and maintain account dashboards (in coordination with commercial efforts) for aligned accounts. The MDM will demonstrate ROI for all promotional/provisional spend, and execute quarterly business reviews with customers and internal stakeholders demonstrating progress against identified goals. The MDM will manage and monitor customer incentive programs, provide customer access to new products and services, as well as any introduce new customer programs.

Qualifications

BA / BS in business related field is required, MBA desirable. A minimum 8+ years of sales/commercial experience is required. Proven account management experience is required. Experience working with optometry schools is preferred. Highly developed interpersonal / people skills with demonstrated aptitude/experience in working with diverse cultures are required. Strong analytical skills while maintaining ability to think strategically, as well as strong negotiation/leveraging skills are required. Adept at business planning and financial models. Effective in selling value proposition of JJVC and its products and solutions. Strong presentation skills, both preparing and delivering a message. Ability to understand customer needs and appropriately apply appropriate solutions. Strong product and clinical knowledge. Strong understanding of new technology and its applications. Strong understanding and adherence of Health Care Compliance and Open Payments. Skillset in mentoring and coaching peer-to-peer highly recommended. The position will be regionally-based and requires approximately 50% overnight travel.
