The purpose of this position is to be responsible for conducting risk assessments and partnering with Mercer Marketplace Operations to ensure appropriate controls are defined and consistently executed.In addition, the Controls Specialist will perform operational reviews to assess compliance, effectiveness, and efficiency of processes, policies and procedures. The Controls Specialist will also facilitate and/or support internal and external audits of Mercer Marketplace.

To fulfill this role the Operations Management Solutions Controls Specialist will:

Utilizes project management and analytical skills to identify and communicate the inherent and residual risks within Mercer Marketplace.Identifies control weaknesses and provides value added recommendations related to inefficient and ineffective procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and laws.

  • Conduct risk assessments of current business practices and controls.

  • Identifies the significant auditable areas of Mercer Marketplace.

  • Researches laws and regulations as applicable.

  • Develops the nature and extent of the audit scope to address risk including data reporting, data integrity and fraud prevention.

  • Partner with Consulting, Implementation and Service Delivery teams, Operations Management Solutions Partner Manager and Operations Management Solutions Contract Liaison to ensure appropriate controls are defined and consistently executed.

Assist Operations Management Solutions management in providing assurance to executive and operations management as to the adequacy of the effective use of Company resources, adequacy of the defined controls, and adherence to policies and procedures as well as laws, regulations and industry codes.

  • Perform and lead operational reviews to assess compliance, effectiveness, and efficiency of processes, policies and procedures.

  • Provides peer review of colleagues’ operational review observations and identified issues.

  • Clearly documents all findings and communicates results of operational reviews.

  • Interface with various level of Mercer Marketplace management on operational review findings, recommendations, and corrective action plans.

  • Uses effective communication and negotiation skills during the presentation of recommendations / corrective actions for improvement.

Responsible for oversight of the User Access Review policy, including coordination and completion of the reviews in partnership with Operations Management Solutions and Operations teams (onshore and offshore).

Facilitate and/or support internal and external audits of Mercer Marketplace. Serves as a liaison in the audit process between auditing and operations teams. This includes collection and dissemination of requested information, escorting the external auditor while on the premises, and assisting the solution with audit follow up until the audit is completed.

Perform special projects/project management as directed by Operations Management Solutions management (e.g. open enrollment).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required

  • Applicant should have at least 5-8 years of related business experience (preferably with an employee benefits outsourcing company). Domain expertise is essential

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a changing work environment

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, manage and execute projects while ensuring deliverables and specification are met

  • High degree of discretion and independent judgment with an understanding of standard operating procedures

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Outlook and Word
