Duties & Responsibilities
Staff assistant responsibilities include providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the office. This position will report to the full time Executive Director and part-time Administrative Assistant. The staff assistant for HMS MED science will be responsible for maintaining the day to day needs of the office and program. The program is open, full time and requires a staff assistant to be available to answer the phone, triage calls, assist the frequent visitors and serve as host to the visitors when they are waiting. The staff assistant will help the teacher prepare the classroom and reorganize materials after each class and will ensure that there is a proper supply of materials and will inform the teachers as supplies get low. As students return forms the staff assistant will file and keep account that all forms are returned. The Executive Director arranges all the schools calendars but if calls come in canceling classes the staff assistant will inform the teacher. The staff assistant will also assist the classroom teacher as she escorts the students to and from class and for this role needs to have familiarity with and the ability to communicate well with high school students.

Additional Information: This is a term position for one year with the possibility for renewal.

Basic Qualifications
A minimum of 1 year of related office experience.

Additional Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a science focus preferred. Ability to communicate accurately and keep team members informed of messages. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with faculty, staff and especially students. Able to work in a diverse student population. Experience in this area preferred. Comfortable working in busy rapidly changing environment. Must work well as part of a team. Good verbal and written communication skills. Prior experience with high school students such as near peer mentoring is preferred. Excellent ability to engage high school students
