Job Details:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Education: Level of knowledge generally acquired through a high school degree. Medical Assistant certification or equivalent experience required. BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required. Medical Assistant Certification required.

Experience: Knowledge of Meditech preferred. Previous experience working in a pediatric or special needs healthcare setting strongly preferred.

Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Bilingual ability preferred.

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Verifies patient by name and date of birth. Confirms reason for visit (e.g. well child/annual physical examination, sick visit, follow-up visit, etc.).

  2. Obtains vital signs, heights, weights, head circumferences, oxygen saturations, and vision screening per departmental protocols. Notifies pediatric RN or MD if any patient may require urgent/prioritized assessment.

  3. Updates medication list and allergies for all patients.

  4. Assists the Pediatric RN or MD with the following patient treatments as needed: vaccinations (intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intradermal as indicated by MD), catheter insertion, ear irrigations, suture removal assistance

  5. After each exam room is vacated, all MA's are responsible to clean and organize the room for the next patient adhering to departmental and organizational policies for infection control.

  6. Facilitates efficient patient flow by checking in patients and makes sure room assignments are determined as soon as practical.

  7. Assists as needed with patient ambulation and transfers. Lifts/transfers up to 200 pounds. Escorts patients to other departments as needed.

  8. Communicates effectively with children, adolescents, and their parents. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific competencies required to treat infants, toddlers, adolescents, and young adults. Understands how different developmental ages may impact the delivery of care to ensure the safety of our patients.

  9. Obtains and transports specimens to the laboratory per hospital protocols.

  10. Documents required clinical information daily using appropriate systems and/or forms.

  11. Runs and documents controls for all point of care testing performed in the pediatric clinic including: Rapid strep, urine dip, and blood glucose.

  12. Works collaboratively with other Medical Assistants and other members of the pediatric team in all interactions and communications.

  13. Assists with other clerical activities such as filing, photocopying, answering phones, etc. as needed.

  14. Checks code cart seal daily.
