Duties & Responsibilities Responsibilities in two primary areas: a. direct oversight of assigned programs and b. support of cross program initiatives. Program assignments are organized by community and based on risk level and total number of volunteer hours. A. Assigned Programs1. Supervise summer directors in program and curriculum development, policy and constituent relationships.2. Manage hiring and supervision of senior and junior summer staff.3. Oversee school year student directors and provide support for strategic planning and assessment of impact through regular meetings and site visits.Facilitate personal and professional development of student volunteers. Establish and maintain integrity of relationships between programs and community partners. Serve as liaison and primary contact for PBHA with community leaders and community based organizations in assigned neighborhoods. Provide technical assistance and training for programs. Uphold minimum health and safety standards as outlined in PBHA policies and federal, state and municipal guidelines. Manage and resolve program crisis and incidents. Oversee program budget and approved expenses. Facilitate funding strategies for programs and ensure access to needed resources. Manage constituent concerns and requests B. Cross program responsibilitiesSupport designated student officer in coordinating relevant training, reflection, and discussions for corresponding Program Affinity Group (e.g. mentoring, afterschool, advocacy and housing). Coordinate cross-program service initiatives and group-wide grants in Program Affinity Group specialty area. Build and sustain relevant informational systems to maintain institutional memory. Direct cross-program support responsibilities including, but not limited to program licensing, PBHA events and student development initiatives. Work with Student Officers, Cabinet Sub Committee, and Staff to set and follow through on priorities and semesterly objectives. Collaborate with the Public Service Network and other Harvard organizations in student and program support efforts.

Basic Qualifications College degree or equivalent college coursework.Five years of experience working in community-based organizations, schools or related organizations in the public sector.

Additional Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Work, Education, Non-Profit Management, or a related field is preferred, but not required. Master’s degree a bonus. Some experience in after-school or youth development settings is preferred. Knowledge of homeless shelters and housing services also preferred. Strong skills in the following areas are required: written and communication skills, training facilitation, ability to work with diverse populations, management of complex tasks, ability to work collaboratively, electronic management of information (email, database) coaching, and facilitation. Directors of Programs at the Phillips Brooks House Association serve as coaches of the student leaders. As such they must possess strong commitment to social justice, knowledge of community issues and Boston and Cambridge partners, and ability to coach young leaders to lead high quality programs. Strong candidates will have five years of experience working in community based organizations, schools or related organizations in the public sector in Boston.

Additional Information OverviewThe Phillips Brooks House Association seeks a Director of Programs to support its student led public service programs. The Director of Programs of the Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) is supervised by the Deputy Director of PBHA. The Director of Programs is a member of the Phillips Brooks House Department which reports to the Assistant Dean of Harvard College for Public Service. The Director of Programs serves as the coach for a quarter of the Phillips Brooks House Associations eighty plus programs. The Director of Programs works collaboratively with three other Directors of Programs, the Training, Reflection, and Evaluation Coordinator, the Deputy Director, and student leaders to ensure high quality programming. Together the programming staff seeks to achieve the dual mission of meeting community needs and developing student leaders. The Director of Programs is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with community partners in their assigned neighborhoods. The Director of Programs also works closely with the PBHA student officers, other PBH Department staff, the Office of Student Life and other colleagues at Harvard.All formal offers will be made by FAS Human Resources
