Duties & Responsibilities
Working under the direction of the Faculty Director, the Executive Director will build, develop, and manage a full range of activities designed to support the Program's mission.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions*):

The Executive Director will professionally and positively represent the AISP to faculty, students, administrators, Alwaleed Philanthropies, and all other constituents internal and external to Harvard. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs all operational functions of the Program including budget preparation, forecasting and oversight, finance, staffing, facilities, event planning and evaluation, and marketing and communications; takes lead in anticipating and resolving any potential issues.

  • Develops strong working relationships with the Faculty Director and Faculty Steering Committee and keeps them informed of all major Program activity and/or decisions.

  • Plans and executes individual and joint outreach opportunities with other Harvard Centers and initiatives, as well as with other Alwaleed programs as appropriate. Also seeks opportunities to further the AISP mission by collaborating with external programs and institutions as feasible.

  • Regularly and effectively communicates with Alwaleed Philanthropies through its representatives, as well as with other Alwaleed programs worldwide; maintaining a record of these communications is required. When appropriate, these communications will be shared with internal partners (e.g. the University Development Office, the Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs, etc.).

  • Develops and manages strong working relationships with internal and external program leads to best leverage all potential collaboration opportunities.

  • In collaboration with the University Development Office, the Executive Director leads the organizational efforts for the annual Steering Committee meeting including all planning, logistics, and follow-on reporting.

  • Responsible for writing, implementing and reporting on all grants and gifts from donors, including program results and financial reporting; coordinating with the University Development Office is required.

  • Identifies funding opportunities, internal and external to Harvard, and, in collaboration with the Faculty Director, prepares grant proposals to further AISP's objective to support and to expand programming related to Islam and Muslim Cultures.

  • Develops innovative ways to elevate awareness of the research and knowledge of Harvard's Islamic Studies faculty to new sectors, networks and stakeholders both at Harvard and externally.

  • Responsible for other duties as needed or required.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:

  • Minimum of 7 years related experience in program or project management

  • Masters degree or equivalent work experience
