Job Summary Facilitate diverse financial analysis for a school/unit and assist department management with their financial planning efforts, budget analysis and monthly reporting.
Provide analytical and quantitative analysis to support decisions related to the preparation of the annual budget, mid-year forecasts and multi-year financial plans
Develop reporting for use in financial planning
May function as subject matter expert and/or project lead
Advise unit/school on financial questions (e.g., endowment planning, sponsored awards, and capital planning considerations) in support of financial processes
Design and deliver presentations that educate School leadership on key financial issues
Work closely with other groups within the school/unit finance area to better understand University-wide financial management issues that inform planning, reporting and analysis
Provide staff mentoring and training
Ensure financial compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations
Additional Responsibilities The Senior Financial analyst will have three main responsibilities. The first will be supporting and preparing the annual financial components of the university’s multiple 990 forms. The next will be assisting the implementation and monitoring of the university’s internal controls over financial reporting initiative. The last portion will be in the Accounting Operations area, where the focus will be on security, chart of account management, subject matter expert in Oracle (the financial software), account reconciliations, post audit reviews, and inter tub billings.
• Preparation of work papers and schedules relates to the financial components of the annual Form 990
• Performs complex interim and year end reporting
• Manages the chart of accounts security and subject matter expert in Oracle
• Performs account reconciliations, post audit reviews, and researches and resolves issues
• Responsible for ensuring general ledger balance reconciliations are supported by sufficient work paper support and are appropriate and accurate.
• Prepares key components of the university annual financial statements and related footnotes which are used by the University’s rating agencies, bondholders, alumni, etc.
• Implement and monitor internal controls over financial reporting, able to identify potential areas for efficiency or improvement within existing processes
• Completes special projects as directed by the Office of the Controller
• Utilizes Oracle financial systems, ad hoc querying tools, and other financial software to assist in required reporting and analysis requests both internally and externally
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience
MBA or Master’s degree in relevant field preferred
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
Advanced knowledge of budget management, financial analysis and financial modeling; working knowledge of accounting principles
experience with financial systems and data query tools
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects on deadline.
Demonstrated experience in desktop computing systems, including spreadsheets, word-processing and databases.
Requires demonstrated knowledge/understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Experience in a not-for-profit environment preferred.
Excellent oral and written communications.
Excellent accounting, organizational, and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Experience utilizing Oracle financial systems.
Work is performed in an office setting
