Massachusetts Institute of Technology Systems Administrator in Cambridge, Massachusetts
SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR, Center for International Studies (CIS), to administer and support CIS’s Windows/Mac desktop and laptop computers and its office phones (VoIP), printers, copiers, and network infrastructure. Will support systems and desktop applications specific to MIT educational and business processes; configure telephones; update operating systems and desktop programs; repair equipment and facilitate returns/repairs; respond to and resolve technical issues; provide some mobile device support; maintain server operations; install and maintain security software for desktop and laptop computers; maintain conference room video and audio equipment and video conferencing system; maintain computer loaner program for shared CIS equipment; purchase computers, peripherals, tools, printers and copiers; track expenses in several computer-related accounts; train faculty and staff to use equipment and basic software; serve as the liaison to MIT Information Systems and Technology; stay up-to-date on the latest application releases and relevant business knowledge; maintain database of all computers, operating systems, and installed software; communicate technical concepts in common terms to ensure understanding from all audiences; and perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in related field; at least five years’ experience providing technical support in a medium- to large-scale computing environment; Microsoft Office skills; excellent interpersonal, customer service, problem solving, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills; advanced knowledge of Windows and Mac desktop and server platforms; expertise with backup and antivirus software and installing and maintaining Microsoft Office and Adobe products; and ability to read and create technical documentation and learn and adapt quickly to new technologies.
