Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Langer Lab, to work with genetic engineering in a research group consisting of chemists, biologists, engineers, pharmaceutical scientists, and physicians focused on developing clinically-relevant solutions to gastrointestinal drug delivery systems. Primary responsibilities will include culturing, cloning, and assay development of microbial and mammalian cells lines. This is a highly translational project that will involve contributing to the design of experiments, ranging from polymer chemistry to early and late-stage preclinical testing in animal models. May train and coordinate the work of lower-level staff, student employees, and/or temporary staff, ensuring that others comply with established standards, regulations, and laboratory procedures. May also be responsible for training new users on equipment operation.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: B.S. in molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, tissue engineering or related field; research background in genetic engineering and drug development; at least two years’ specialized lab experience, which may include experience gained as an undergraduate; experience working with and maintaining technical instruments/equipment; strong time management and communication skills; demonstrated problem solving skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; awareness of basic safety issues; and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Must be able to learn quickly; multitask and organize multiple experiments simultaneously; plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; and balance multiple projects. Relevant experience with two or more of the following preferred: cell culturing (microbial or mammalian); DNA manipulation (PCR, purification, cloning); analytical techniques including gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry, microscopy; high throughput techniques; and polymer chemistry or materials science.
