    Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Mechanical Engineering-Traverso Lab, to join an interdisciplinary group of researchers and staff that support initiatives focused on the development of clinically relevant solutions to gastrointestinal drug delivery systems. Responsibilities will include designing drug delivery systems to be tested in small and large animals, performing rapid prototyping via 3D printing/machining, performing in vivo and in vitro experimental tasks such as dissection for evaluating the interaction between prototype and tissue and setting up experiments with gastrointestinal tissue ex vivo; formulating and performing physicochemical/stability characterization of excipients for oral drug delivery; executing statistical analysis of experiments; ordering materials and laboratory upkeep; summarizing and documenting research results/findings; researching and providing content for presentations, grant, and fellowship proposals; ensuring safety standards/procedures are followed; preparing lab for inspections and correct problems; training and coordinating the work of lower-level staff, student employees, and/or temporary staff; and communicating, interpreting, and providing training on lab policies.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: B.S. in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, material science, chemical engineering, bioengineering or a related field; and at least two years of experience (co-op and internships considered). PREFERRED: research background in biomedical engineering; hands-on experience with rapid prototyping (training to gain further skills will be available; and relevant experience in five or more of the following: CAD/CAM (SolidWorks/HSMWorks, Fusion360); biomedical device design and development; material characterization (biomaterials properties, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, FT-IR); additive manufacturing/3D printing (FDM and SLA); subtractive manufacturing (manual and CNC machining); plastic molding (extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding); polymer science/formulation; drug delivery/pharmaceutical sciences; and ex vivo tissue handling (tissue processing for histological analysis)/in vivo studies in small/large animal models.
