Job Purpose: In partnership with the Store Manager, you will be responsible for leading overall store service experience and operations with responsibility for achieving sales, payroll and service results. While the Store Manager is responsible for hiring the store team, you will play an integral role in training staff and supporting them in their roles on the sales floor. As an Assistant Manager, you are expected to oversee the visual aesthetics of the entire store and manage department coordinators to ensure their departments are properly set, maintained and recovered. You will also hold the team accountable for upholding The Paper Store mission statement, standards, and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Role model World Class Service and provide consistent coaching to all employees to ensure service behaviors are being performed

  • In partnership with the Store Manager, manage and deliver sales, supply, and payroll budgets on a weekly/monthly basis

  • Capture accurate and valid customer information at the Point of sale to support company’s new customer acquisition strategy: including Hallmark Crown Rewards Card sign-ups and Email capture.

  • Assist the Store Manager with executing strategies to drive sales and build customer loyalty through store programs including: Hallmark Crown Rewards Program, TPS Email Club, and Store Events

  • Ensure management team performs effective sales floor supervision to drive sales while maintaining exceptional customer service

  • Deliver a visually inspiring environment at all times by optimizing receiving and visual team to ensure timely replenishment and recovery of backroom and sales floor

  • Inspire and motivate the team everyday with positive feedback and ongoing Paper Store recognition programs

  • In partnership with the Store Manager, assist in hiring and retaining top talent

  • Train and motivate all associates through ongoing programs in sales, customer service, product knowledge, and the Hallmark Customer Satisfaction Index Program to continue to improve Overall Satisfaction and Service Experience scores

  • Communicate openly to create an environment where all associates are treated fairly with dignity and respect

  • Build positive working relationships with Store Manager, District Managers, peers, merchandisers and corporate partners to clarify priorities, share business ideas and best practices

  • Ensure all means of communication (Smart Sheet, email, etc.). are acted upon in a timely fashion

  • Assist Store Manager in company compliancy standards to ensure that all policy & procedure, audit and loss prevention guidelines are being met on a daily basis

  • Perform management functions as expected by the Store Manager: These would include but are not limited to: opening and closing of the store, management functions on point of sale, managing the sales floor during assigned times, coordinating break schedule, etc.

  • College degree preferred or equivalent job experience

  • 2+ Years management experience in specialty retail

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and POS Systems

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to adapt to and embrace change

  • Ability to be mobile on a sales floor for extended periods of time

  • Ability to motivate and inspire high performing teams

  • Professional attire, demeanor and appearance required

  • Ability to lift and mobilize medium to large items up to 50 lbs., while utilizing appropriate safety techniques
