State of Massachusetts 2nd Level Direct Care Worker in Foxboro, Massachusetts

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Metro Residential Services seeking a person with strong attributes in the Human Service field to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Provides support to individuals living in the apartment or home in which they work. Staff support individual by teaching them skills, carrying out ISP-related goals and objectives, completing documentation and data, deliver medication, report concerns to supervisors and provides physical assistance when necessary, as well as providing supervision to staff of lower grades while on duty. In addition staff drives the state vehicle in order to transport individuals to work or on leisure or community trips. Staff is expected to be familiar with community and neighborhood resources and assist individuals in becoming active members of their community. Staff must be familiar with State regulations. They will also be required to complete housekeeping and yard work as requested.

Schedule: 2nd shift

Days Off: Friday and Saturday off

_Preferred Qualifications:_

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a respectful, caring, tolerant, ethical,

and empowering relationship with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities;

Capacity to assist/lift individuals with physical disabilities and/or limited mobility or

objects (minimum 55 lbs);

Aptitude to transcribe read and comprehend the English language;

Possess current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License

Applicants must pass the Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification

Upon successful completion of a training program, incumbents must obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid (FA) certification

This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the Department of Developmental Services Emergency Plan. This means that whenever the Governor declares that the Commonwealth is in a state of emergency, selected applicant will be required to report to work.

This is a 24hour/7 days a week staff position. The Department of Developmental Services requires employees in this position to be able to perform "MANDATORY" OVERTIME" when circumstances dictate the need.

_Pre-Hire Process:_

A criminal background check (CORI) will be completed on the recommended candidate as required by the regulations set forth by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services prior to the candidate being hired. In addition, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2014, An Act Requiring National Background Checks, requires the Department of Developmental Services to conduct fingerprint-based check of the state and national criminal history databases on the recommended candidate. Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have (A) at least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in providing direct support services to persons with developmental/ intellectual, emotional or physical disabilities, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

Substitutions:

  1. An Associate’s degree or higher with a major in a human services field, including sociology, special education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or other related field may be substituted for the required experience.

Incumbents are required to possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment.
