Long Term Contract Data Center Server Technicians—5 Positions

Job Duties:

  • Techs will maintain the CMDB on a day-to-day basis, i.e. track any change or move and report them in the tool

  • Techs will receive shipments, unpack assets, document assets, install, power up, and validate operational state

  • Decommission assets, prepare for disposal, update documentation and provide decommission services in accordance with existing SOPs or verbal assignment

  • Connect network cables, power cables, and validate operational state - includes maintaining asset inventory records to ensure replacement inventory is maintained at desired levels

  • Perform all tape management services to include adhering to scheduled tape swapping schedules and placing tapes in designated repositories for pick up by offsite storage vendor

  • Follow archiving process and procedures in the filing and storage of documentation

  • Perform all designated asset lifecycle management SOPs – lifecycle management activities include the monitoring of EOL assets, notification of EOL, and execution of designated process and procedures

  • Perform systems checks and reboots as part of scheduled and unscheduled activities

  • Proactively participate in asset lifecycle activities to include the proper tagging and labeling of equipment, and will adhere to tagging and labeling standards established by the client

  • Provide access services based on each site's security requirements – access services will include validation of credentials to gain access as well as escort services where necessary

  • Ensure proper logging of activities per site as designated by SOPs provided by the client

  • Walk through data center and ensure all security constraint will be respected

  • Participate with environmental monitoring up to the notification to client of any abnormal environmental conditions or alerts

  • Assist in proper planning of space as assets are added and removed

  • Notify and call proper vendors or providers when there appear to be issues with or alarms from the fire detection and suppression system(s) – Tech will escort vendor to the failed equipment

  • In the event issues arise or devices appear inoperative or malfunctioning, notify and provide needed vendor escort services or local staffing services until such time as access device malfunction has been corrected

  • Provide off-hours presence in the case of providing an escort for facilities maintenance

  • Provided statistic and participate in meetings

  • Assist with escorting resources to perform the tasks of this work

  • Perform power up / down tasks as part of a scheduled routine, or in the event of an unplanned event forcing such activity to be required

  • Assist in audits to continue improvement of services, identify recurring issues, or otherwise participate in change management procedures

  • Perform the tasks of this work adhering SOPs

  • Adhere to designated ITSM process and procedures as well as leverage supplied toolsets for such work

  • Participate in all ITSM process reviews, change management initiatives, quality control improvements and recommend incident and request process improvements as opportunities arise


  • 3+ years of experience supporting equipment within a data center

  • Experience in networking, cabling, and server support

  • Managed servers through a network monitoring program such as Solar Winds

  • Lifecycle management of hardware systems

  • Ability to check and reboot systems

  • Manage asset tagging and equipment labeling

  • Documentation within a ticketing system

  • Maintain inventory and access lists

  • Management, storage, and rotation of backup tapes

  • Decommission disposals and transfers

  • Rack and Stack power and hardware

  • All certifications a plus but not required
