Job Summary

Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs building systems such as electrical wiring, fixtures, apparatus, control equipment, electro­ mechanical controls, card access/security, and fire alarms. Initiates repairs on building systems such as control systems, beating and ventilation (HVAC) systems.

Essential Functions

  • Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs building systems such as electrical wiring, fixtures, apparatus, control equipment, electro­mechanical controls, card access/security, and fire alarms. Initiates repairs on building systems such as control systems, heating and ventilation (HVAC) systems.

  • Functionally supervises employees of a lower grade in the installation, maintenance and repair or electrical wiring systems and equipment.

  • Plans layout and installs and maintains electric wiring, fixture, apparatus and control equipment.

  • Trains, advises and mentors employees, technicians and journeymen, In the operation and maintenance of the campus electrical systems, security card access and fire alarm systems and their related components, including but not limited to electrical controls, electro-mechanical controls, and computer software prograA1s, electrical equipment and apparatus such as elevator controls, motors, generators, and regulators.

  • Operates and maintains testing switchboards and power panels. Tests and charges storage batteries, and repairs and replaces electrical parts. Reads electric meters and records meter reading.

  • Cleans and lubricates electrical machinery and equipment and maintains an inventory or parts and equipment. Orders materials for assigned jobs.

  • Operates and maintains motors, generators, switchboards and similar electrical devices and equipment.

  • Maintains and repairs emergency lighting throughout campus buildings. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Maintains an inventory or on-the-job tools and equipment.

  • Interacts with contractors and campus customers relating to the operation, maintenance, and repair of various electrical, security, and fire alarm controls systems.

  • Assists engineering staff by inspecting project sites to determine accuracy or drawings and specifications and providing info regarding discrepancies between project drawings and actual site conditions.

  • Installs, repairs, alters, and maintains pumps; estimates labor and materials needed to do the work.

  • Cuts and threads pipe, using stocks and dies, power threading machines, wrenches, power saws, safety equipment, and other related tools. May be required to drill or cut holes through floors, walls, or ceilings.

  • Drives a motorized vehicle around campus to various campus buildings.

  • May be required to work in confined areas.

Other Functions

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Journeyman Electrician License.

  • Driver's License Class D.

  • C-CURE Installation and Maintenance Certification. Employee must obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices or the trade.

  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to the electrical trade.

  • Considerable knowledge of the State electrical codes.

  • Considerable knowledge of fire alarm, security and card access control systems.

  • Skill in working with the tools and equipment of the trade.

  • Ability to work from drawings and diagrams and from oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to detect and locate causes of electrical failure or breakdown of equipment.

  • Ability in installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring systems and equipment.

  • Ability to make work/job related decisions.

  • Ability to functionally supervise.

  • Ability to estimate time and materials.

  • Ability to locate and follow circuit runs without blueprints or drawings.

  • Ability to draw and give oral explanation of circuit layouts.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master Electrician's License.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • May be required to work in confined areas.

  • Drives a motorized vehicle around campus to various campus buildings.

Additional Details

  • Works under the supervision of an Institution Maintenance Foreman who assigns work and checks for completion.

Work Schedule

  • Mon-Fri 6AM-2PM.

Salary Information

Grade 17 Special Recruitment Rate Step 6.
