TheCenter for Teaching & Learning (CTL) (https://www.umass.edu/ctl/) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, established in 1987 and highly reputable with UMass faculty, seeks an Educational Developer with experience in online, in person and hybrid pedagogy for a 12-month, full-time non-teaching lecturer position. The successful candidate will help to support teaching excellence and to advance the university mission to expand flexible learning curricular opportunities through supporting faculty and instructors in the development of courses aligned withflexible learning principles (https://www.umass.edu/chancellor/sites/default/files/pdf/final_fl_report.pdf) and student-centered teaching practices in online, in person and hybrid contexts. Additional responsibilities will include the design and facilitation of instructional workshops, researching and sharing emerging pedagogical and best teaching strategies, and support of ongoing CTL programming including the mid-semester assessment program and consultations. Candidates with a background in STEM related pedagogy and instructional practices for large enrollment lecture courses are desirable.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
An individual in this position would be expected to:
Identify and advocate for evidence-based practices for teaching and learning; determine the strategies, services and support necessary for faculty to be effective educators.
Create and lead workshops in collaboration with CTL staff for faculty on a wide variety of topics related to teaching and faculty success.
Participate in faculty consultations and the mid-semester assessment program.,
Work collaboratively with other CTL staff to provide a wide-range of programming to support teaching excellence particularly in the area of flexible learning and hybrid course design.
Work collaboratively with various units across the university.
Master’s degree in any discipline
Instructional experience with both in person, online and hybrid contexts
Demonstrated ability to support faculty in activities related to online, in-person and hybrid course, program, and instructional development.
Demonstrated commitment and experience integrating principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching development programming.
Demonstrated knowledge of higher education learning environments.
Demonstrated competence working in partnership with university instructors, administrators, and staff.
Ability to work independently and take initiative by showing leadership in key areas of responsibility.
Strong verbal and written communication, time management, and organizational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to work within a team to identify opportunities, present ideas, and receive and provide constructive feedback
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to those with:
Doctoral degree in learning sciences, educational technology, or STEM discipline.
Extensive knowledge of higher-education learning environments.
3-5 years of college teaching experience in large enrollment courses and/or STEM related disciplines.
Experience in student-centered learning approaches within large enrollment in person, hybrid, and/or online course contexts.
Experience in providing instructional support for faculty in STEM-related disciplines, universal design for learning frameworks, and/or the integration of online instructional supports
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
