Job Summary

Working under general supervision of the Director of SACL Human Resources & Administrative Officer, the SACL-HR Specialist/Analyst is primarily responsible to supporting the business functions of SACL-HR Matrix including collecting, compiling, and analyzing various HR metrics, directly advising SACL-HR Leadership in matters related to staffing/optimization of personnel, and managing the Graduate Student Employment across SACL, including working with SACL Leadership on staffing optimization of the graduate student workforce.

Essential Functions

  • Collect and compile HR metrics and data from a variety of sources including the human resource information system (HRIS) and payroll outputs, management, and employee surveys, exit interviews, employment records, government labor statistics, competitors’ practices, and other sources.

  • Analyze and advise on data and statistics for trends and patterns with attention to recruitment, hiring practices, motivation, turnover, right-sizing/optimization of personnel, and compliance with employment laws and regulations. Suggest business function and personnel adjustments to the SACL-HR leadership.

  • Design, implement, and facilitate, the orientation and onboarding of all new employees within SACL, based on best practices.

  • Coordinate meetings, training, events, and activities with SACL HR and facilitate training for SACL managers and supervisors on employee relations/labor relations policies and processes.

  • Provides leadership and acts as SACL’s liaison to the Graduate school, the college of Education, and the Office of Human Resources in all matters related to SACL Graduate student employees. Act as the SACL liaison for College’s recruitment events, participates on committees, and attends Graduate School related meetings as needed.

  • Manages and tracks the Graduate Student hiring within SACL and serve as the primary contact with the Graduate Assistantship office and for all graduate student employees and related matters, including, but not limited to, developing and implementing the hiring practices, and personnel management processes around reviewing, editing, and posting all graduate student position descriptions, initial appointments, reappointments, changes, and terminations.

  • Coordinates and ensures the Graduate Student hiring paperwork and/or status letters are sent, received, and properly processed. Prepare, process, and track Graduate Student Personnel Actions (GFAFs). Responsible for communicating timeliness of pay information, and other updates supplied by the Graduate Assistantship Office to SACL departments.

  • Engage in cross-functional collaborative team matrix approach to SACL-HR functions. Have knowledge of, and ability to provide support and back-up to the SACL-HR team, including but not limited to serving as SACL Lead for assigned searches, supporting SACL job performance appraisal processes, supporting SACL leave administration requirements, supporting SACL position description maintenance, and perform routine filing, scanning, and archiving of records to ensure record retention compliance.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of personnel management or human resources experience; or an Associate’s degree with six (6) years of personnel management, or human resources experience.

  • Superior organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage concurrent priorities.

  • Understanding of, and adherence to, applicable compliance requirements.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, coupled with demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Contemporary knowledge of human resources best practices.

  • Superior technology skills; the ability to create and maintain systems using a variety of Microsoft products.

This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position is non-unit, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees Non-Unit (Professional/or Classified) Employee Personnel Policy.

Work Schedule

Typical work schedule is Monday thru Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.
