The Fine Arts Center’s combination of educational, visual, and performing arts programs not only makes us unique but it also secures a very vital and necessary position for us to meet the diverse needs of scholars, faculty, students, alumni, and the broader community.

Job Summary

Reporting to the FAC Deputy Director, the Departmental Assistant-Arts Council is responsible for the administration of the activities of the Arts Council program, including coordination of the Council’s grant-giving operations and the Council’s meetings, communication with Council members and student applicants, and initiation of collaborative events providing training to students.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Arts Council including financial management, budget development, recordkeeping, and report preparation.

  • Facilitates the Arts Council’s meetings and maintains communication with Council members to carry out the activities of the Council.

  • Directs and promotes the grant-giving operations, consults with applicants regarding eligibility, grant writing, budgeting and financial networking, and teaches grant writing workshops. Manages the Arts Council’s grant database. Prepares written summaries of each grant and synthesizes reviewer feedback into comments sent with notification emails.

  • Coordinates the research, writing, design and production of all Arts Council virtual and printed publications, including the Council’s web page, grant guidelines, arts on campus calendar ads, and other publications. Works with the FAC marketing department to deliver marketing efforts of the Council, including drafting advertisements and email announcements that promote the Council’s programs and services.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Experience in arts administration.

  • Ability to encompass diversity and multicultural arts.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite.

  • Strong organizational and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good interpersonal communication skills for dealing with a diverse population of students, staff and volunteers.

  • Confidence and enthusiasm for presenting to groups of students.

Work Schedule

10 hours/week primarily during fall and spring semester

Salary Information

$20-$25/hour depending on experience
