Mercury Systems Hardware Sustaining Engineer in Andover, Massachusetts

In this role as a sustaining hardware electrical engineer, you have the opportunity to solve complex embedded board and system problems, support customers and operations, and innovate with high-end technology. You are a part of a dedicated hardware electrical engineering team that collaborates within hardware and across the organization. The sustaining hardware electrical engineer focuses on continued engineering with post-release design support and new product introduction. Additionally, the sustaining engineer supports current and future product development, especially in the form of design improvements. There is an opportunity to collaborate with engineering teams that include hardware, software, and mechanical engineers. The sustaining engineering may support customer and operations escalations directly. Specific activities include solving complex issues arising in production and in the field. Additional responsibilities include evaluation and qualification of alternate components due to availability. New design efforts include bug fixes, cost optimization, yield improvements, and new features. New design activities require circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout support, plus hands-on digital, analog, and power circuit testing. In addition, the sustaining hardware electrical engineer is involved in design-to-value activities and works closely with design engineering team members and technicians. Debug and diagnosis technology from Intel, Freescale, Microchip, Xilinx, Altera, Broadcom, TI and beyond. Interfaces include high-speed Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR SDRAM Memory. Other support circuitry to include DC/DC power, Clocking, JTAG, SPI, I2C, UART/RS232, SATA, USB, and other IOs. As a Hardware Sustaining Engineer you are responsible for: * Sustainment of released products * Execute debug and root cause analysis * Interface with customer support, FAEs, and external customers * Interface with manufacturing for debug and yield improvements * Specify, qualify, and design alternate components into existing products * End-of-Life (EOL) planning of major components in existing products * Develop hardware improvements to resolve issues encountered in released products * Engage in process improvements to resolve issues in design and manufacturing * Support operations with transition of new design to production * Documentation of design and test * Work responsibly in a team environment and independently * Perform failure root cause analysis and documentation * Create engineer change orders (ECOs) and update documentation To succeed in this role as a Hardware Sustaining Engineer, you should have the following skills and experience: * Proficient with electronics test and measurement tools (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power-sources) * Experience in the embedded computer field * Exceptional organizational, analytical, and creative problem-solving capabilities * Experience with component and system level troubleshooting for digital, analog, and power circuits * Must be self-motivated in order to achieve assigned objectives with minimal supervision * Experience with environmental chamber and stress testing * Experience with scripting and diagnostics * Experience as team/project lead * Experience with presenting to management and to external customers * Skilled at computer-based electronic circuit design, schematic capture (Mentor, Cadence) * Skilled at PCB layout analysis and review (Cadence Allegro) * Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Purpose: This position is for a seasoned professional in the sustaining hardware electrical engineering sub-family, who can work independently with some supervision and engineering debug efforts.
