Carrier Fire & Security Products, the world's largest manufacturer of fire safety products, is seeking an Engineering Manager, Detection and Alarm for its Kidde Fire Systems business in Ashland, MA! Kidde Fire Systems provides fire suppression solutions that protect people and property from the effects of fire. For over 100 years, industry leaders and the military have relied on Kidde Fire Systems to deliver outstanding fire detection and suppression for their mission-critical applications.
The Engineering Manager, Detection and Alarm (D&A) , is responsible for the D&A department at Kidde-Fenwal. This role includes communication within a shared Engineering Research & Design (R&D) and Quality Assurance center in India. This role is responsible for driving innovation, value, and sustaining engineering, developing a roadmap for programs and agency updates in the areas of: software and firmware engineering for Fire Alarm Control Panels, peripheral devices, and Internet of Things (IOT) integration.
This role reports directly to the Director of Engineering for Global Suppression, collaborating with the full spectrum of Industrial Fire and Suppression leaders, including product management, operations, finance, and sales and marketing.
Specific responsibilities for this position include:
Manage all engineering activities within a department, including innovation, budgeting, design, development, production implementation, and testing.
Manage and drive all necessary actions for obtaining and maintaining appropriate product and agency certifications needed for industry purposes.
Provide expertise and ongoing communication to Engineering, Quality, Product Safety, Product Management, Sales, Operations, and Business Unit Leadership, in support of Business Unit and Company goals and objectives.
Interface with UTRC and CCS Innovation and Technology group to identify and mature relevant technologies for product development.
Management of cross-functional international remote development teams.
Develop, coach, mentor, and manage staff. Establish goals and objectives and develop measurable metrics to gauge achievement against goals.
Accountable for budget, staffing, and/or business/operational results
Travel requirements: 15%
15+ years of engineering experience.
Experience leading cross-functional development teams, including international and remote teams.
Project management mindset with process rigor and discipline from previous work experiences.
Experience in the development, testing/qualification, and application of complex control systems. Strong knowledge and experience in implementing HCLT / HS processes and practices in software development life cycle (SDLC).
Experience with development, deployment, and utilization of software processes including Requirement Based Testing (RBT), Code Review, Design Review, Data Coupling, Control Coupling, Module Based Design, and Unit Test Functional Verification Test, Version Control, and Hardware-Software Integration Test (HSIT).
Ideally, the incumbent will come from the fire industry or have supreme knowledge of the certification approval process for underwriters like FM, UL, and others.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
Master's degree in Engineering preferred
MBA degree preferred
