Sensata Technologies, Inc. Design Engineering Director of Product Excellence in Attleboro, Massachusetts

Sensata Technologies is looking for a Design Engineering Director of Product Excellence for its Industrial product line. Primary responsibilities include team leadership, proactively driving design driven cost reductions, driving design driven quality improvements, supporting production and quality engineering on product quality issues.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has progressed as an individual technical contributor and also has a proven record of successfully leading global engineering teams.

Operationally, they will have strong business acumen in competitive analysis, cash flows and P&L; driving change management to deliver improved performance and using critical thinking to prioritize business decisions. Technically they will have experience developing mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic products.

Success in this position requires good organizational savvy and good team-building and influencing skills; both in working with internal teams and external teams. Often times this position may require keen negotiations with internal and external teams to develop a win-win situation for the business and customers. This position, which reports to the Senior Director of Engineering of the Industrial Business Unit, and will be a part of the Industrial Engineering Leadership Team.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Work as part of senior leadership team in making decisions related to design, operations, priority development, and financial performance.

  • Analyze manufacturing product yield and manufacturing costs to determine areas for improving product quality through design changes. Prioritize, plan and execute design improvements. Measure improvements and ensure improvements are permanent.

  • Analyze BOM and manufacturing costs across a broad product portfolio. Prioritize, plan and execute design changes to drive cost reductions. Measure success vs. annual targets.

  • Support material content reporting and activity such as REACH, ROHS, etc. Understand current and future regulatory requirements and drive activities to ensure compliance across several product families.

  • Annual planning: short term and long range plans.

  • Talent Management: recruitment, development and retention of top talent. Must possess strengths in effectively evaluating team member’s abilities, coaching, mentoring and creating department succession plans.

  • Develop the engineering organization by building effective teams, structures, and processes that can support increase in business scales and complexity.

  • Strong communication, collaboration and team building skills; ability to connect with all levels of the organization.

  • Comfortable working in a global matrix environment.

  • 10 - 20% of travel may be required.

  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience.

  • Product design and development experience. (Sensor Design a plus.)

  • BS/MS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required. (MBA a plus)

  • Experience and passion for inspiring and leading design teams.

  • Must be able to successfully manage and motivate team members across various locations.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement standardized processes and best practices.

  • Ability to work across all functions and levels of an organization.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Experience with managing projects and client relations.

  • Solid understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
