Department Summary:
The Data Environments and Engineering Department (L146) in the Modeling & Analysis Innovation Center is seeking highly motivated, adaptive, and enthusiastic candidates with a wide variety of interests and a foundation of skills in systems engineering, software engineering, information systems, or data engineering to join our department as an Associate Data Engineer. Candidates should have a strong interest in addressing and solving challenges related to capturing, managing, and sharing data supporting decision making and enabling mission processes.
Role and Responsibilities:
Working with experienced project teams and under the guidance of data environments and engineering mentors, project tasks may include:
Developing data requirements documentation
Performing source-to-target data mappings
Documenting and implementing data transformation rules to meet the requirements for system interfaces and data integration projects
Collecting and integrating project data
Profiling project data sources
Preparing data and conducting data analysis
Development services to improve data management
Updating websites and SharePoint sites
Migrating data to the Cloud
Supporting stakeholder interviews
Developing prototypes and performing data analytics and research
Researching and evaluating data management tools and technologies
Participating in knowledge sharing and best practices through MITRE-led Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs), workshops, research, and platform development
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, software engineering, information systems, or a data management related discipline
Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance
Experience manipulating datasets with at least one modern programming language or business intelligence platform like Python, SAS, MATLAB, C++, R, Java, SQL, PL/SQL, T SQL
Familiarity with of all phases of the software or systems development life cycles
Strong problem-solving, systems thinking, planning, organizational and interpersonal skills
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Experience working in teams
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in developing and applying data management and data engineering domain skills to organizational, system, and data sharing related challenges and concerns
Previous Co-Op or Internship experience
Coursework or familiarity: computer science - especially data structures, database systems, and artificial intelligence
Performing data and process analysis
Working with database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Neo4j)
Applying statistical analysis methods and tools
Visualizing multi-dimensional data using tools like Tableau, Qlik, Power BI or D3.js
Understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling
Performing source to target data mapping and implementation
