Department Summary:

MITRE’s Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization P850 Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Innovation and Central Office (HICO) Division is seeking a motivated and creative Associate Health Transformation Analyst with an interest to learn VA health administration, operations, policy, and data analytics. This position will apply cutting edge tools and techniques to challenging problems facing the US government. This position offers the opportunity to interact directly with government leaders in a fast-paced and dynamic atmosphere with the ability to make a difference and impact outcomes with solid analysis and recommendations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with VA and Veterans Health Administration (VHA) sponsors to gain understanding of their challenges, evaluate possible solutions, and conduct insightful, actionable analyses.

  • Apply innate curiosity and interest in developing research questions and testing hypotheses with open ended tasking.

  • Apply health practice, policy, and systems analysis to support VA challenges, with a willingness to adapt and learn.

  • Address social and organizational influences and structure within the healthcare delivery context.

  • Conduct research and analysis using applied social and behavioral science techniques and models.

  • Support stakeholder analyses, organizational assessments, and system design and development supporting health related organizations.

  • Coordinate and conduct activities related to short- and long-range planning; program and project development, implementation, and evaluation; and translation and dissemination of scientific information to audiences in a variety of formats.

  • Support documentation or specification analysis, information preparation, project management support (status reports, spreadsheets, etc.), deliverable preparation (documents and presentations), deliverable editing, or performing health IT research.

  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner that can be understood by all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in one or more of the related fields of study: public health, clinical/health informatics, health data science/analytics, health administration health policy, or acquisitions.

  • Familiarity with healthcare, public health, and scientific terminology.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the healthcare industry, clinical roles, and government or private healthcare organizations.

  • Demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, presentation, and communications skills.

  • One or more internship experiences and/or one or more research assistant experiences.

  • Ability to obtain VA and DoD security clearances.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in one or more of the related fields of study: public health, clinical/health informatics, health data science/analytics, health administration health policy, or acquisitions.

  • Familiarity with health IT standards – such as terminology standards (e.g., ICD-10-CM/PCS) or exchange standards – especially HL7 FHIR.

  • Experience in clinical data workflow modeling.

  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, etc.), EHR implementations, and EHR workflows.

  • Subject matter expertise in health economics, health or public policy, outcomes research, health analytics, public health, health information technology, and/or other health-related government initiatives.

  • Familiarity with behavioral science research methods including survey, experimental, qualitative, and quantitative methods

  • Experience with various Microsoft Office 365 Applications, including: Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Planner, Power BI, SharePoint, Teams, and Forms.
