Department Summary:

MITRE’s Infrastructure and Networking Innovation Center (L110) seeks a Division Chief Engineer (CE) who will integrate across the division, partner government-facing divisions and all of MITRE. The L110 CE will provide thought and technical leadership as part of the Division leadership team across a diverse set of technical capability areas supporting multiple sponsor missions: enterprise networks, 5G/xG, cloud and containerization engineering, enterprise service automation, and intelligent mission aware networking. The CE must provide individual, distinguished technical support directly to government sponsors, as well as shape work and ensure technical excellence of others to drive impact. The CE will oversee division capability budgets and oversee division labs.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Chief Engineer responsibilities include:

Technical Quality and Impact

  • Lead technical quality efforts and development of technical quality standards within key work programs and division labs

  • Drive technical quality across the division capability areas including what type of MITRE work we should be doing today and the work programs of the future

  • Ensure the technical strength of the work program by shaping its content, participating in technical product definition and reviews, bringing a perspective that reflects knowledge of the domain, and understanding of the state of the art

Strategy Development

  • Develop and lead the execution of technical strategy and core capability areas, collaborate across the division and departments to focus on impact and growth of key areas

  • Identify new opportunities for bringing innovation to the division’s work programs and internal research and development

  • Ensure alignment of technical strategy with infrastructure, lab and capability investments

Staff Development

  • Mentor and develop technical staff, lead efforts in deliberately growing the organization’s core competency areas and ensuring deliberate early career workforce shaping

  • Provide input to talent assessment and development planning

Partnerships and Initiatives

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key technical leaders across MITRE Program Divisions, MITRE Labs, and external partners for new project collaboration opportunities, technical skillset development and technical quality

  • Work with project leaders to identify and execute work proposals aimed at injecting innovation across critical division projects and potentially developing new program areas

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree with 15 years of related experience, Master’ of Science degree with 12 years of related experience, PhD with 10 years of related experience

  • Need U.S. citizenship in order to be eligible for a TS/SCI clearance after hire

  • Minimum of seven years of leadership/mentorship experience leading technical teams and large projects

  • Demonstrated collaboration and communication skills to support individual, team, and customer-related interaction

  • Proven experience engaging with senior sponsors with successful impacts and outcomes and establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships

  • Technical depth in at least one of the division capability areas:

  • Enterprise Networking

  • 5G/xG

  • Cloud and Containerization Engineering

  • Enterprise Service Automation

  • Intelligent Mission Aware Networking

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A proven history of injecting innovation into direct work programs

  • Demonstrated experience working

  • Previous leadership of efforts funded across multiple joint MITRE organizations or sponsors

  • Mentoring and job coaching experience

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across diverse sponsors and stakeholders
