Data Science/Data Analytics Intern

Spend the summer as part of MITRE’s Data Analytics team, where you will work on a data analytics project (potential topics include big data analytics, data mining, and data visualization) to enable data-driven decisions and insights.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Pursuing an undergraduate degree in a technical discipline (including but not limited to Data Science and Computer Science or similar technical degree). Must have a 3.0 or better grade point average. Experience with analytic techniques and methods (e.g., supervised and unsupervised machine learning, statistical inference, link analysis, and text mining) as well as software languages is preferred. Relevant software languages and big data technologies include: Python, R, Java, C#, C, SAS, analytic engines, Hadoop, parallelized analytic algorithms, and NoSQL and massively parallel processing databases. The successful candidate will have the ability to formulate problems, prototype solutions, and to analyze results.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on software development skills (Python, R, Java, C , C#, Javascript) with analytic applications and technologies
  • Getting and cleansing data

  • Data storage and retrieval (relational and NoSQL)

  • Data analytics and visualization, and cloud-based technologies

  • Experience with the Map Reduce programming model and technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and Pig is a plus

  • Students need to be currently enrolled and will be enrolled the following semester in a full-time in an accredited degree-seeking university program.\

  • 70% of MITRE’s full-time jobs require US government security clearances, therefore many internships require that the candidates be clearable. MITRE does not sponsor or hire candidates who require sponsorship in any form to work permanently in the US.
