Tecolote Research, Inc. Interdisciplinary Engineer in Bedford, Massachusetts

Skills Required: Ability to obtain a security clearance (DoD Secret security clearance required, may start with Interim Secret) Knowledge of commercial, industry standards and construction/installation of communication infrastructure Installation and/or installation and design experience of telecommunications systems Installation and/or design of telecommunications closet layouts, including locating new cabinets, working with elevation drawings, interpreting electrical and UPS requirements, and bonding and grounding of network and telecommunication systems The ability to decipher and diagnose reuse existing infrastructure that may be available within a telecommunications closet as one of this program's goal is to reuse as much existing infrastructure as possible in supporting the network refresh strategy The ability to integrate with a constantly evolving team on each assigned project and to create the best, most cost effective solution that meets the PMO's budget and timelines while producing a finished result that is based upon clear and concise decisions that track with similarities between all projects Experience working with Air Force base civil engineering or the commercial world equivalent, especially in construction design, funding and/or operational management Ability to effectively review and assess contractor estimates for material quantities and installation labor for completeness and reasonableness Working knowledge of Microsoft computer programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, Power Point, and computer aided drafting (CAD) Familiarity with fiber optic cable testing procedures and data analysis Familiarity with OTDRs, OPTiView, JDSU, T-berd, and other network analytic tools Communications and consulting skills Time management skills Responsibilities: We are seeking a Interdisciplinary Engineer who will analyze customer objectives and needs to assist the Program Management Office in validating and refining strategic systems engineering and NW architecture initiatives. The Interdisciplinary Engineer (Distribution Services Engineer) must have demonstrated systems engineering experience working on complex system integration projects and processes with proficiencies to perform duties such as, but not limited to the following responsibilities: Perform Site Survey Reviews at assigned bases, discuss/obtain base policies and procedures for environmental, work request processing at the local civil engineering, and obtain data about base communication squadrons fiber distribution and shortcomings Consolidate and document major issues potentially impacting the project Review all the Air Force site data to be provided to the prime integration contractor for use in developing base specific installation design Review with integrating contractor at the start of Site Survey process the site specific data and issues collected at Survey Requirements Confirmation (SRC) meetings Participate in on-site collaboration of the installation planning efforts, the weekly Integrated Product Team (IPT) conferences and address evolving issues as they may develop Review contractor plans and documentation package for cable plant distribution and installation This effort shall include comparing both inside and outside plant installation details and testing data against program office design and documentation standards Perform periodic and milestone installation inspections as coordinated with the PMO DS Engineer and PM, to verify compliance with contract requirements Conduct a final acceptance inspection and As-Built documentation review Participate in annual technical documentation/system requirement updates Travel - 35%-60%
