Department Summary:
MITRE’s End-to-End Systems Engineering Department is looking for systems engineers with an interest in advancing and applying innovative systems engineering techniques to help solve some of our nation's most critical challenges in delivering services to citizens throughout defense and intelligence, aviation, homeland security, the judiciary, healthcare, and cybersecurity domains. We are looking for highly-motivated, adaptive, and self-directed candidates with a solid systems engineering foundation in or a motivation to build technical skills supporting the development and deployment of nationally important solutions through Systems Requirements and Architecture, System-of-Systems, Systems Thinking and Model-Based Systems Engineering practices
Roles & Responsibilities:
As a Principal Digital Mission Engineer, you will leverage your systems engineering expertise to lead teams as they analyze, design, implement and integrate enterprise systems and system-of-systems for federal agencies. Specific responsibilities may include:
Provide Model Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering and Mission Engineering thought leadership and expertise to the development and evaluation of complex federal systems engineering efforts.
Lead large multi-disciplinary teams in development and implementation of digital models to support development, integration and acquisition of federal systems and guide the evolution of system of systems.
Provide systems engineering expertise across lifecycle phases, focused on requirements analysis, architecture development and analysis, risk assessment and test and evaluation.
Develop and champion new systems engineering capabilities and processes focused on Digital Engineering and Digital Mission Engineering that will be applied across the federal government.
Lead efforts to develop and employ capabilities of current MBSE and modeling and simulation tools and techniques to address critical problems of the federal government.
Drive internal and external research opportunities in cutting edge engineering fields.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 7 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 4 years experience or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Experience in architecture modeling and architecture elicitation to support complex system and large-scale system of systems development.
Ability to lead technical work in complex, muti-disciplinary and ambiguous situations large, complex, systems or systems of systems projects.
Experience leading teams of engineers and analysts conducting complex systems, system of systems or mission engineering level analyses.
Proven track record of mentorship and leadership of technical staff.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong critical thinking skills.
Able to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship
This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or relevant technical discipline.
Experience integrating models across modeling and simulation applications to perform detailed analysis by leveraging data from multiple engineering disciplines.
A broad knowledge of digital engineering and operational analysis processes and tools and their application to produce evidence-driven analysis results to senior government leaders.
Experience working across organizational business units to deliver innovative solutions of value to both internal and external technical programs.
Demonstrated leadership in developing and leading new work utilizing modern systems engineering, mission engineering and systems of systems engineering methods.
Experience developing and leading research efforts aimed at closing critical technology and operational gaps in large, complex organizations.
Experience leading detailed design, development, and deployment of complex government systems.
Strong interpersonal skills, with proven track record of developing trusted relationships with senior government leaders, and effectively communicating and collaborating with multiple engineering/program disciplines across organizational boundaries.
