BJ’s Wholesale Club (NYSE: BJ) is a Fortune 250 company. The Senior Legal Counsel plays an integral role in supporting BJ’s on-going operations and must demonstrate excellent commercial sensibility and a team-first ethos. The Senior Legal Counsel advises company executives, negotiates complex commercial contracts, manages litigation, oversees compliance and regulatory matters, supports M&A and other strategic transactions, manages corporate paralegals and legal counsel, and otherwise supports the legal team and BJ’s business objectives.
Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Respond promptly to legal requests from the company's various business units, including merchandising, IT, finance, marketing, analytics, sales operations, and other business clients.
Support executive leadership with commercially minded advising.
Assist with M&A and other strategic transactional matters.
Negotiate agreements consistent with company practices and risk tolerance.
Manage litigation.
Support the creation and continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes.
Advise on regulatory compliance matters (e.g., privacy, payments, and product-specific regulations).
Support and manage corporate paralegals and legal counsel.
Reports to Vice President, Associate General Counsel.
Qualifications
In-depth experience in contract negotiation and complex transactions
Excellent commercial judgment
Excellent communication skills
Outstanding work ethic
Team-first ethos
Requirements
J.D. required
Minimum 6 years of experience. 3+ years AmLaw100 experience required.
In-house experience strongly preferred.
Admitted to MA bar association, or eligible to practice pursuant to MA SJC Rule 4:02 (9)
This is a hybrid role. Tuesday through Thursday are in-office days at BJ's Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA and Monday and Friday are remote days.
