State of Massachusetts (6) Watershed Planning Program - Student Interns in Boston, Massachusetts
_Project Name_:MassachusettsSurface Water Quality Data Exploration and Analyses
The Massachusetts Surface Water Quality Standards (SWQS; 314 CMR 4.00) section, located in Worcester, implements the federal Clean Water Act (CWA) to protect surface waters (e.g., rivers, streams, estuaries, etc.) throughout the Commonwealth. The SWQS designates the most sensitive uses for these waters and establishes minimum water quality criteria required to support these uses. Under the CWA, all states must review their water quality standards every three years to ensure that policies reflect the latest available information. Essential steps in this process are the development of new water quality criteria and proposing updates to existing criteria based on the latest scientific knowledge.
_Description of Internship Duties_

This project will include the application of different water quality data analysis methods, such as analyzing long-term trends in surface water quality data, and a mapping component. Completing this project will involve the use of Microsoft Excel, potentially other data analysis applications (e.g., R), and mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS).
