North Coast Seafoods Assistant Controller in Boston, Massachusetts


The Assistant Controller is a professional who aids in the formulation and compliance assurance of internal controls and provides support to accounting management. This individual must be a forward-thinking, career-oriented person. Responsible for a variety of duties, this professional is reliable, efficient, and extremely organized.

This position reports to the Controller.


  • Manage operational data and ensure data integrity and accuracy.

  • Provide labor analysis and job costing for three production facilities.

  • Provide technical system support throughout the company, as needed.

  • Manage and improve operational procedures, documenting data flow.

  • Help oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, identifying discrepancies, and reconciling accounts.

  • Assist in month-end and year-end closings and preparation of all related financial reporting packages.

  • Prepare GL journal entries and reconciliations for designated accounts.

  • Assist with the development and evaluation or budgets; prepare budget reports.

  • Assist in building/improving ERP system and procedures.

  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and Manage system hardware and software applications; troubleshoot system issues as needed.

  • Perform other duties as required within the accounting department, assist with special projects as necessary.


  • BA in Finance, Accounting, or related field

  • 8+ years, experience in accounting or finance, with increase in responsibility over time

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferred; food manufacturing, a plus.

  • Advance understanding of systems (NAV, Pivot Table, Excel, Power BI, Crystal Reports)

  • Experience overseeing payroll, working knowledge of ADP or similar systems, a plus.

  • Accounts Payable (AP) experience desired

  • Experience with cost accounting

  • Working knowledge of logistics and inventory software, preferred

  • Firm grasp of supply chain, inventory control, distribution, and management principles

  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills

  • Able to manage priorities and complexities, strong multitasking skills.

  • Proactive thinker, exceptional logic reasoning and problem-solving skill set.


  • Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds.

  • Work up to a 10-hour workday: standing/walking most of the day.

  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.

  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.

  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.

  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 30-32 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators)

  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
