DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Director of Banquets is responsible for appropriately providing leadership for Banquet team and overseeing the execution of all banquet events to ensure optimum performance, superior guest service, and maximum profitability of all functions. Maintain quality, service, and operating standards as established by the Brand to ensure quality and consistency. Adhere to federal, state and local regulations concerning health safety or other compliance requirements.

Ensures timely reviews, regular department meetings, pre-shift meetings, training and positive employee relations to increase morale, productivity, guest and employee satisfaction and to reduce turnover. This position reports to the Director of Banquets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: experience in full-service, luxury hotel or resort with high volume banquet and/or convention facilities typically catering to more than 500 people. Management experience of a large number of employees and oversee subordinate managers/supervisors.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with others; demonstrated ability to interact with customers, employees and third parties that reflects highly on the hotel, the brand and the Company.

• Must have excellent interpersonal and sales-related skills.

• Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when completing paperwork and banquet event orders, interpreting results, giving and receiving instructions, and training. Must speak fluent English.

• Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently. Must be able to prepare and analyze data and figures. Must possess basic computer skills. Outlook & Excel experience preferred.

• Must have a working knowledge of types of room set-ups, capacities, relation to type of event, etc.

• Must have exceptional organizational, supervisory skills. Must have knowledge of food and beverage and pricing.

• Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are used often.

• Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.

• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature generally is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F), possibly for one hour or more.

Walking and standing are required most of the working day, must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously, must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis, must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally and frequently lift 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates. Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment. Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.
