Boston University ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, School of Law, Advocacy Programs in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Boston University School of Law's Advocacy and Legal Writing Program seeks an Assistant Director with a strong background in project management and excellent communication skills who is excited to work across teams with law students, faculty, and law school staff. The Advocacy and Legal Writing Program oversees a wide variety of student programming, including law student competition programs, law student journals, and upper-class writing programming and curricula, and works closely with the Law Schools Academic Enrichment and Academic Engagement offices.

The Assistant Director plays a key role in planning and executing a wide range of programming and events that are designed to support our students in developing various legal skills. The Assistant Director will work with the Director of Advocacy and Legal Writing to develop, coordinate, and execute the administrative function of the Law Schools legal skills programming, external competitions, and upper-class writing curriculum. The Assistant Director will also provide support to and contribute to the Associate Dean for Academic Engagement and the Director of Academic Enrichment in the performance of their teaching, programming, and administrative duties, including student workshops, academic support and bar prep courses, ABA accreditation requirements, and other co-curricular work.

Attention to detail, responsiveness, and clear, consistent communication will be essential to success in this role. Given the student-facing nature of the work, this is a hybrid position, with consideration given to flexible or remote work arrangements as team staffing permits. There are occasional night and weekend responsibilities.

Required Skills

  • B.A./B.S., or equivalent.

  • Three to five years of relevant experience managing projects or programs.

  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines simultaneously, attention to detail, excellent organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills and a high level of comfort with independent problem-solving.

  • Must be a dedicated, independent, and confident team player.

Additionally, while no person has every qualification on the following list, the ideal candidate for this role will possess many of the following qualifications:

  • Experience working with a graduate and/or professional school population.

  • Competency in identifying diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues and comfort working with others to develop resources and facilitate discussions.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with individuals and groups of various identities.

  • Commitment to developing and continuously improving the systems, processes, and technologies that we use to enable effective programming, information gathering and tracking, and reporting.

  • Ability to quickly master new technologies and systems.

  • Experience with budgeting and/or oversight of others budgets.

  • Comfort with Qualtrics, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and/or WordPress.

  • Experience with marketing and communication for events and trainings, including developing materials.

  • Exposure to the legal profession.
