Job Description

The TRIO Student Support Services, Assistant Director will support all aspects of the program to ensure the successful completion of activities to retain and graduate enrolled low income students, first generation to college and students with disabilities at Boston College as part of the federally funded TRIO programs. This is a grant funded position.

The Assistant Director, TRIO Student Support Services will provide academic advising, encouragement and support to 65-100 first-generation, low-income undergraduate students and serve as an academic advisor, role-model, mentor, conversation partner and liaison while providing access to university services and support systems. The Assistant Director will monitor student academic progress and develop individualized strategies for students’ success. Additionally, the role will be responsible for the assessment and evaluation of departmental programs and initiatives.

One of the most critical functions of the Assistant Director, TRIO Student Support Services is to design, plan, execute, and assess the BC F1RST College Transition Program. This includes the recruitment and selection of 45 program participants, the management of the day-to-day operations of the program, as well as the hiring, training, and supervision of 10 student staff, and the coordination of all program activities and services with university partners and services. The Assistant Director, TRIO Student Support Services will coordinate and manage the First-Gen Advisory Board, including the recruitment, selection, and training of advisory board members, serving as a liaison between the board and departmental staff, and managing all activity of the board.

The position is also responsible for teaching a section of the Applications of Learning Theory Course, which entails designing the course syllabus and learning outcomes, and delivering the course content to 20 students in both the fall and spring semesters. The Assistant Director, TRIO Student Support Services will conduct outreach to and collaborate with university offices, academic departments, and student organizations. The position will also assist with the administration of the BC F1RST Living Learning Community by developing and implementing activities in conjunction with the ResLife staff.

We are looking for a forward thinking individual who has high energy, charisma and is multifaceted in skills and experience in the field of higher education.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $51,350 to $64,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

A Master’s Degree in Higher Education, or related field, and a minimum of three to five years of experience working with first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students is required.

Two to three years of teaching experience in a higher education setting; experience working with first-generation, low-income students; experience in program development, planning, implementation, evaluation, and assessment.

The Assistant Director must have a strong ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment. The Assistant Director must demonstrate an understanding and mastery of social media and technology.

The Assistant Director must have professional experience in and be well versed with advising low-income and first-generation college students including knowledge of student development theory in particular to college students, and first-gen, low-income and underrepresented students.

This position requires evening and weekend hours (student outreach, activities, retreats, and meetings). This position also requires some travel and a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
