This role will serve as the primary point of contact for legal affairs at Franciscan Children’s and other affiliated organizations, providing strategic legal guidance and risk management to address legal and regulatory issues and optimize operational alignment and compliance with the OGC. The position will report to senior leadership at the OGC with a matrixed reporting structure to the CEO and executive team at Franciscan Children’s.

The Associate General Counsel will:

  • Serve as a primary contact within the OGC to facilitate the integration and alignment of the legal and compliance functions between affiliated organizations and Boston Children’s Hospital.

  • Address a broad range of legal and compliance matters, including issues related to corporate governance, Medicaid provider regulations, state licensure requirements for hospitals and special education schools, state and federal privacy rules, state and federal regulatory requirements, employment law, contracts, policy review and enforcement, internal investigations, conflict of interest, and responses to inquiries from internal and external sources.

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to support executive decision-making on major policy and operational matters.

  • Manage day-to-day legal affairs at affiliated organizations and serve as primary point of contact for legal issues to promote legal compliance and risk mitigation.

    To qualify, you must have:

  • JD from an accredited law school and c urrent licensure by the applicable board of Bar Overseers or equivalent license is required.

  • Minimum of seven years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department representing large organizations in health care, life sciences or government

  • Experience managing corporate risk is preferred.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to healthcare, special education, labor laws, and privacy laws (HIPAA and FERPA).

  • Aptitude to offer concise and effective legal opinions by analyzing, interpreting, and applying complex facts, policies and regulations to a wide range of legal topics.

  • Track record of excellent judgment, integrity, honesty, discretion, and business acumen.

  • Strong academic credentials with excellent legal research, analytical and drafting skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong team orientation with the ability to collaborate both within a legal team and across multiple clinical, operational and compliance teams in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Proficiency with MS Office, (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other web-based applications is required.
