State of Massachusetts Auditor IV in Boston, Massachusetts
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (“Department”) is the designated state safety oversight agency for the natural gas companies in Massachusetts. The Pipeline Engineering and Safety Division (“Division”) holds a Certificate of authority for the transportation of natural gas in Massachusetts.
The incumbent in the position will be responsible for analyzing data the Division receives for the gas companies. The data will be maintained in electronic files for each company, will be graphed and entered into an algorithm to determine risk and consequence.
The incumbent will participate in audits of data by the Division and submit reports to the Division Director as assigned.
Collaborate with other Divisions by submitting requested data, reports or analysis of data.
Identify through analysis, trends that will assist in the Division’s efforts to develop mitigation strategies and policy solutions to reduce the frequency and severity of incidents and potential risk to natural gas distribution system.
Assist in reporting safety and critical data to the US Department of Transportation, Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
Research and review industry safety oversight agency to help determine appropriate and feasible safety policies, procedures, and implementation strategies to reduce risks to natural gas distribution systems.
Assist in the development of specialized data reports and assessments for internal and external purposes.
The incumbent must be willing to attend relevant training classes to obtain necessary certifications and licenses. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, of which at least (B) one year must have been in supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*
II. A Graduate degree with a major in accounting, business administration, or business management may be substitute for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience. No substitution will be allowed for the required (B) experience.
