Job Description

The Head of US Retirement Marketing will be responsible for leading comprehensive marketing strategies in support of our Global Retirement business, with a focus on the United States (John Hancock Retirement). Additionally, this role entails overseeing intermediary and sponsor marketing initiatives for both the United States (John Hancock) and Canada (Manulife).

The incumbent will work closely with business partners throughout the organization to drive strategy for strategic, complex marketing initiatives that increase brand awareness and consideration and drive revenue across participant and intermediary channels.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate expertise in leading and implementing strategic change to drive business growth.

  • Have a proven track record of successfully managing teams within retirement sector, inspiring change and leading transformative initiatives.

  • Possess strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and optimizing resource allocation.

  • Be able to set and prioritize objectives aligned with organizational goals and communicate them effectively.

  • Be proficient in developing and executing strategic communication plans.

  • Have a strong executive presence

  • Collaborate using impact and influence skills across segments/regions

  • Have a proven ability to develop and maintain relationships across all departments at all levels, including sales, relationship management, product, legal, compliance, and where applicable, external advisors and distributors.

  • Be dedicated to continuous improvement

  • Have a proven track record of meeting key performance indicators (KPIs) and driving measurable results.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Adobe Marketing Technology stack to drive marketing strategy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive strategic marketing initiatives for the US Retirement market, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Oversee intermediary and sponsor marketing activities in both the United States and Canada.

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing marketing team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

  • Manage budgets effectively, optimizing resource allocation for maximum impact.

  • Set clear priorities and objectives, ensuring team alignment with broader business strategies.

  • Spearhead change initiatives within the marketing function, adapting strategies to evolving market trends.

  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans to enhance brand visibility and engagement.

  • Ensure successful execution and delivery of marketing campaigns, programs, and initiatives.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), consistently meeting and exceeding targets.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • 15-20 years of marketing experience in the retirement industry

  • Investment acumen required

  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.

  • Strategic problem solver with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of retirement industry, markets, investments and investment concepts

  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced, often changing environment.

  • Creative and innovative thinker with a solution-oriented approach.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrated experience managing internal and external client relationships.

  • Ability to persuade, manage time, prioritize effectively and be goal oriented.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts

Salary range is expected to be between

$148,400.00 USD - $275,500.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
