WSP, an award winning and innovative multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, has an opening for a Commissioning Engineer regarding Building Enclosures Commissioning in the Boston, MA area. WSP works closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.
Your Impact
WSP is looking for a candidate to manage and guide as a local Building Envelope Commissioning Lead in Boston who will report to the National Commissioning Leader. Commissioning is the process and standard orientated to verify that elements of the design and construction meet the Owner Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD) and is very detail oriented. This role will manage and coordinate efforts and staff interfacing with our well-established Boston-based MEP Systems Commissioning (Cx) team and enclosure commissioning specialists.
The candidate must have project management capabilities and be well-versed in the following standards and guidelines:
ASHRAE Guideline 0-2019 - The Commissioning Process.
ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 202-2013 - Commissioning Process for Buildings and Systems.
NIBS Guideline 3 (2012) - Building Enclosure Commissioning Process BECx (now within ASTM Standards and Guidelines).
ASTM E2947-21a - Standard Guide for Building Enclosure Commissioning.
ASTM E2813-18 – Standard Practice for Building Enclosure Commissioning.
LEED V4, 4.1 and 5.
Work directly with the National Commissioning Leader and Building Enclosures Team on project deliverables and prospective business opportunities.
Perform analysis, , peer review, and consultation on Building Enclosure systems, curtain walls, contemporary wall systems, roofing, below and above-grade waterproofing, parking structures, and other related construction.
Perform Building Enclosure related construction observations, administration, and evaluation of contractor performance to ensure project deliverables and quality standards are achieved.
Preparation and review of construction-related drawings, technical specifications, reports, and other construction documents related to the Building Enclosure for new and existing building construction projects.
Observe and perform field functional performance testing and construction mockup design and consulting for Building Enclosure systems; observe and review laboratory testing and processes.
Participate in forensic investigations and field reviews to determine design and repair options, building investigation reports, and other construction documents related to building investigations.
Participate in design meetings with owners, developers, architects, product manufactures, and other consultants; provide technical advice to clients, discuss progress of work, and manage project teams
Provide technical design input parameters for the development of design and construction documentation.
Participate in building asset evaluation and management projects, including property condition assessment, reserve studies, pre-purchase surveys, and asset management for Building Enclosures.
Occasionally initiate, and regularly assist with marketing activities, participate in marketing presentations, and preparation of proposal and new project efforts as required or assigned.
Make contributions to company knowledge management and practice systems.
Contribute to the firm's reputation in the market and maintain client base and relationships.
Complete building enclosure commissioning projects.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or Construction Management or other construction-related discipline.
10+ years of work experience required in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or
Construction Management or other construction-related discipline
Registered Engineer, Architect, or other applicable professional license preferred, or eligible for relevant registration.
IIBEC CBECxP (Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider) is a preferred certification.
Other certifications for LEED and others should be indicated by the applicant.
Understanding of Functional Performance Testing for Building Enclosures.
Project management experience and deep skills in coordination between disciplines a plus.
Excellent communicator possessing strong writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
Proven success managing and contributing to Building Enclosure related projects involving commercial and residential buildings.
In-depth knowledge of building materials and construction processes for design, construction, and/or repair of building enclosures, waterproofing, cladding systems, roofs, parking structures, and other related construction.
Interest in innovative design, specifically in renewable energies and sustainable, and high performing buildings.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Office Suite, and related programs is preferred.
Experience in LEED, high performance buildings, building science analytics and building science modeling software, such as WUFI, THERM or energy modeling software is a plus.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $133,400 - $180,200
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
