    CATERING INTERN – Harvard Business School

    The successful candidate will support the Sales and Operations teams of Restaurant Associates at Harvard Business School. They will work closely with current managers to control and communicate event information and learn to execute events successfully.

    Hours – 30 per week

    Schedule – Tuesday – Friday 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (must be flexible with evening catering events)

    Responsibilities will include but not limited to

  • Answer phones, qualify what help is needed and delegate to appropriate manager. Follow up to ensure resolution is met.

  • First point of contact for any guest arriving in the office. Greet all guests and help to direct where they need to go.

  • Always exude hospitality to all clients.

  • Manage the Catering email and detail events as directed by the Campus Catering Manager.

  • Copy new and revised orders for the Daily and distribute to necessary teams.

  • Ensure that stewarding, staffing, and culinary teams receives any and all last-minute orders for delivery.

  • Complete understanding of menu items and where they are located on website.

  • Make stickers and signage for days events as assigned by Campus Catering Manager.

  • Any additional projects as assigned by the Campus Catering Manager.

  • Gain a better understanding of the proper standard operating procedures for event execution on site during events.

  • Learn the current process for creating and pulling event equipment, reviewing staffing, steps of service, pre-service meetings and basic staff development and training.

  • Check in staff and ensure proper uniforms for larger events.

  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills. Flexible and adaptable to constant changes and must possess attention to detail.

  • Exceptional client relations and customer service abilities.

  • Excellent overall computer skills with advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ensure all safety and sanitation procedures are followed in compliance with HACCP

    Advantages:

  • Exposure to back of house, ordering, financials, and scheduling and stewarding for a better understanding of higher-level catering.

  • Opportunity to utilize Power Point in a presentation which will be made to a group of 35 or more.

  • Work with the Director of Catering on planning a large VIP event.

  • Introduction to Outlook, Spoonfed, EMS, and Telestaff/Dimensions

  • Training on ordering house linen, flowers, specialty linen, rentals and kosher meals.

  • Meals provided

Job Summary

This position is paid, but not eligible for benefits such as medical, relocation, or housing.
