Description

The ideal candidate will be a physician with deep understanding of and experience in primary care, and in multidisciplinary clinical environments. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will ensure that all Fenway Health clinical activities align with our mission, vision, and key strategies. They will build on our pioneering legacy, unmatched track record, and global reputation for designing and delivering leading-edge care to LGBTQIA+ patients and clients, and for serving our local community using a patient-centered, mission-driven approach to provide the highest quality healthcare.

The CMO will lead efforts to center a team-based, patient/client-centered service and care delivery model throughout the organization that leverages the full capacity of a diverse, talented, and highly trained team of clinicians and staff, and will utilize data-driven approaches to identify and mitigate/eliminate health disparities in our care and service outcomes. They will actively advance clinical education and research and oversee the further integration of clinical care and public health programs to ensure that Fenway Health patients and clients have access to a comprehensive array of care and services to support their health and well-being.

The CMO will incorporate an intersectional racial equity lens when making key decisions and will collaborate with department leads and other members of the executive team to ensure alignment and coordination in our work. They will serve as the primary voice for Fenway Health on clinical matters. The CMO will guide and engage the clinical staff, champion quality, foster clinical effectiveness and improve the patient experience. They will establish and maintain collegial relationships and strategic partnerships with organizations and institutions to leverage our impact and will play a leadership role in assessing and integrating leading-edge clinical best practices in our work. The CMO serves as the executive leadership team’s chief advisor on clinical quality, safety, and medical community development, working closely with the AVP of Quality Improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote and model Fenway Health's clinical mission to enhance the health and well-being of the LGBTQIA+ community and all people in the neighborhoods we serve through access to the highest quality health care.

  • Develop and model a clinical philosophy and practice standards for Fenway Health consistent with its mission; communicate and integrate that philosophy and those standards with management and clinical staff.

  • Provide clinical, operational, and strategic leadership necessary to deliver high-value care that is financially sustainable, with a focus on access, quality, and efficiency.

  • Cultivate a medical staff culture that is centered on patient care and enhancing the patient experience.

  • Set and implement key priorities to reduce annual cost, ensure quality outcomes and meet utilization targets for clinical services.

  • Oversee and drive Fenway’s robust quality monitoring and program evaluation components.

  • Use key performance indicators/metrics and drive the establishment of a data-driven, transparent, clinical decision-making culture.

  • Promote and enhance medical education to ensure providers are delivering exceptional evidence-based care.

  • Develop a culture of team-based care that nurtures clinical staff well-being and reduces burnout.

  • Establish and support programs to address accreditation needs, and be accountable for ensuring that appropriate federal, state, and local regulatory agencies' requirements are met within the assigned areas of accountability.

  • Measure clinical department leader performance by utilizing feedback from peers, employees, patients, supervisors, and members of other teams to provide mentorship and ensure success of clinical leaders.

  • Promote Fenway Health’s clinical mission at student, resident, provider, and healthcare related social events to recruit rising talented health care professionals.

DESIRED OUTCOMES

  • Optimize the organizational structure, policies, and operational processes of all Fenway Health clinical departments.

  • Design and implement a clinical staffing model that efficiently delivers quality outcomes, driven by industry benchmarks and in alignment with community needs assessment.

  • Build trustworthy and collaborative relationships with and among Fenway Health clinicians, Fenway Health’s leadership team, and the broader clinical community at large.

  • Develop programs and frameworks to ensure consistent clinical competence and compliance.

  • Ensure financial sustainability via improvements in operations, increased provider productivity and the design and implementation of a competitive clinician compensation plan.

  • Set the vision, plan for, and oversee the implementation of quality, patient safety, infection control and patient experience initiatives at Fenway Health.

  • Build a culture across all clinical services that centers patients and clients, while supporting provider resilience, professional development, and job satisfaction.

  • Engage all members of the medical staff in the pursuit of the highest possible level of quality care, employing the most contemporary methods of measurement, performance improvement and utilizing national best practices.

Requirements

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

Field Engagement and Leadership

Established relationships with organizations and coalitions that promote and provide outstanding care to LGBTQIA+ people and patients affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as other high impact community health organizations. The CMO will serve as Fenway Health's principal voice on advancing innovative care models that optimize quality, safety, and the patient experience.

Clinical Operations Management

A minimum of seven years of progressive leadership experience managing the clinical operations of a large ambulatory clinic, multi-specialty practice, multi-site clinical operation and/or community health center.

Patient-Centered Care Models

Knowledge and understanding of evolving care delivery models that focus on optimizing the patient experience as well as clinical provider performance and satisfaction. Ambulatory, primary care model, and value-based care delivery experience is preferred.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Healthcare Leadership and Advocacy

Broad knowledge and experience in providing the highest quality healthcare to patients and communities served by Fenway Health: LGBTQIA+ communities, persons impacted by HIV/AIDS, other marginalized communities, and neighborhood residents.

Education | Certification | Licensure

Advanced medical degree and current board certification. Must be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
