State of Massachusetts Clinical Social Worker (C) in Boston, Massachusetts
The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a skilled and dynamic clinical social worker to join the Massachusetts Mental Health Center’s outpatient mental health clinic. This role will involve providing evidence-based treatment interventions to DMH-connected adults, as well as offering clinical leadership to the clinic’s interdisciplinary teams. This role involves conducting comprehensive assessments, delivering empirically supported group and individual therapy, and providing care coordination services to adults managing serious mental illness. Additionally, the clinical social worker will offer oversight and guidance to other professionals within the clinic. The Clinical Social Worker C will be responsible for maintaining operational excellence, upholding clinical standards, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based outpatient mental health services. Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive): Clinical Services * Provide high-quality, empirically supported, evidence-based, and recovery-oriented individual and group treatment to a caseload of clients with serious mental illness (SMI), documenting all interventions in accordance with prescribed guidelines. * Plan, lead, or co-lead a variety of groups, including skills training, psychoeducation, and recovery-oriented modalities tailored to adults with SMI. * Ensure coordination of care with DMH-sanctioned care coordination entities (e.g., Case Management, BHCP, OneCare), contracted services (e.g., ACCS, Clubhouse), and community providers (e.g., PCPs, VNAs) involved in client care. Staff Support & Leadership * Provide consultation, training, and supervision to staff in clinical areas of expertise (e.g., clinical and diagnostic issues), promoting the dissemination of clinical knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of care provided to clients. * Provide expert consultation and supervision on clinical and diagnostic issues. * Lead clinical supervision groups on specialized topics to support professional development and training for clinical staff. * Participate in or assume leadership roles in center-wide committees or initiatives as directed by MMHC clinical leadership. Collaboration & Teamwork * Contribute clinical perspectives during team meetings and be available for emergency and planned client coverage. * Collaborate with staff and clients to ensure an atmosphere of safety, respect, and recovery at MMHC. * Assist team leaders in preparing reports and analyses for clinic and Center leadership. Compliance & Documentation * Adhere to all applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including HIPAA, which govern the privacy and confidentiality of patient information. * Follow agency risk mitigation policies and procedures. * Support team leaders and MMHC leadership with audits and reviews to ensure compliance with protocols, evidence-based treatment interventions, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements. * Performs other duties as assigned. _Required Qualifications_: * Knowledge of the principles of physiological, psychological, and emotional growth and development and uses of diagnostic procedures employed. * Experience with interviewing and problem-solving techniques, psychotherapies and principles of psychosocial rehabilitation * Able to understand and apply rules, regulations, and laws governing agency and unit operations and maintain accurate records. * Ability to follow and give clear and precise oral and written instructions and read and interpret documents such as physician’s orders and treatment plans. * Capable of participating and contributing to a multi-disciplinary health care team. * Capacity to exercise sound judgment, make decisions and act quickly in emergency situations. * Adept in establishing rapport and dealing effectively with persons from diverse cultures, races, and lifestyles. * Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information. * Skilled in motivating clients to participate in individual treatment plans, as well as treating and interacting with persons who are under physical/emotional stress. * Aptitude in assessing, analyzing, drawing conclusions, and determining the applicability of clinical data in order to make and/or take appropriate actions, recommendations, or referrals. _Preferred Qualifications_: * * Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures of governing agency as well as uses of agency and unit forms. * Experience with public and private community-based resources for clients and safety practices and procedures followed by agency and unit. * Familiar with newer therapies, interventions and behavioral techniques. *_About the Massachusetts Mental Health Center:_ The Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC) is a psychiatric facility at 75 Fenwood Road in the Longwood Medical area of Boston, Massachusetts. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: * REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a clinical social worker after earning a Master's degree in social work. SUBSTITUTIONS: - A Doctorate in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, or human services may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience. - One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. REQUIRED EDUCATION: A Master's or higher degree in social work is required. LICENSES: - Licensure as a Licensed Certified Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work is required. - Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required. Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines.
