Division Overview: *The Tax Policy Division provides tax guidance and other information about tax laws and DOR to the Department's stakeholders, responding to inquiries from media outlets, legislators, taxpayers, and tax practitioners. The Tax Policy Division also works closely with the Office of Tax Policy Analysis and Digital/ Marketing Services to ensure that various groups within the department are communicating effectively and consistently. *Bureau Overview:The Rulings and Regulations Bureau is part of the Department's Tax Policy Division and provides legal counsel and guidance to the Department of Revenue and the general public on the operation of the Massachusetts tax laws. In addition, The Bureau, not only provides tax guidance and other information about tax laws to taxpayers and tax practitioners, it’s also responsible for producing the Department of Revenue's public legal documents including regulations, technical information releases, directives and letter rulings. Position Summary: *The Rulings and Regulations Bureau seeks to hire a Counsel II to assist with tax research and responses to requests for guidance from taxpayers and tax practitioners. The ideal candidate will have strong research and writing skills and an interest in state tax policy. Experience with state or federal tax law is preferred. The position also involves working with representatives of other agencies, including the Legislature, collaborating with stakeholders, and drafting various public written statements and memoranda regarding tax legislation. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, admission to the Massachusetts Bar and (A) at least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in the practice of law.
