Boston University DATA ADMINISTRATOR & PROGRAMMER, School of Medicine, Rheumatology in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, Section of Rheumatology, is seeking a skilled Data Manager and Programmer to join its dynamic team. This role offers the exciting opportunity to join an internationally leading NIH-funded research team of supportive and collaborative researchers that include faculty members, students, postdoctoral researchers, residents, fellows, and external collaborators. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining data management systems for existing epidemiological cohorts used for rheumatology clinical research.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a new streamlined and user-friendly data management system including data storage, data dictionaries and user documentation. Facilitate the implementation and provide training to the department.

  • Interview analysts, data managers and investigators to determine the goals, objectives and functions for a new data management approach and system.

  • Performs routine maintenance on documentation to identify areas of insufficiency or impracticality within existing documents and facilitates improvements to enhance usability.

  • Gain a detailed understanding of existing primary data collection systems through reading existing documentation, reviewing programs, and speaking with investigators who publish manuscripts with the data.

  • Meet with stakeholders to develop standard approaches for common calculated study exposures and outcomes. Create documentation, including programming examples, where applicable. Develop dissemination strategies and best practices to uphold mutually agreed standards/protocols.

  • Design and execute statistical analysis in R or SAS using a variety of data sources including cohort, administration claims and EHR data.

  • Interpret and communicate statistical findings by utilizing tables and data visualizations for reporting.

  • Train new investigators on an ongoing basis

  • Extract, clean, and format data from primary data collection systems to prepare it for analysis by statisticians.

  • Create analytic cohorts from large EHR and administrative claims data.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of related experience.
