Citizens Data Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts

Description

The primary area of responsibility for this Data Scientist role will be in Anti Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions compliance, however, depending on candidate experience, the role will also cover other areas of responsibility including model development for consumer risk and other areas of regulatory compliance.

As required by the Bank Secrecy Act and the US Patriot Act, the purpose of this position is to perform quantitative analysis in support of the bank’s various models used to detect cases of both potential money laundering/terrorist financing crimes and BSA/AML violations throughout the entire Citizens footprint. As a Data Scientist, you will work alongside Senior and Principal Data Scientists and subject matter experts to collect, organize, and prepare data for use in the development of models as well as to provide data driven insights into risk and compliance problems.

The Data Scientist will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the vendor model configuration, calibration, updates, and troubleshooting and developing strategies to enhance the model output

  • Developing models using machine learning (ML), statistical, and other quantitative methods and supporting implementation of both Vendor and internally developed models

  • Building relationships with business lines and collaborating cross-functionally to access internal as well as industry data sources, understand the data being analyzed, and identify process improvement opportunities

  • Supporting ad-hoc requests from the line of business by understanding requirements, formulating, and communicating approach and obtaining approvals to proceed

  • Producing and articulating strategic recommendations based on rigorous data analysis leveraging appropriate quantitative techniques and data visualization

  • Preparing model documentation and responding in a timely manner to effective challenge from model validation, internal audit, and regulatory reviews; overseeing the tracking and execution of all external and internal validation findings related to vendor and internally developed models

  • Developing and leveraging knowledge of AML & Sanctions risks and controls as well as consumer credit and other areas of banking to lead input analysis, fine tuning, calibration of the models and identifying opportunities for process optimization

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of work experience in data modeling, statistical analysis, and relevant computing requirements.

  • Experience in producing documentation in a highly regulated environment

  • Strong verbal communication skills required with an ability to successfully communicate analytic results, business insights and resulting business implications to non-technical business partners

  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues who have a background in statistics, database development/maintenance, or information technology

  • Strong programming skills and ability to utilize a variety of data/analytic software languages/tools (e.g., SQL, R, Python, XML, etc.)

  • Deep knowledge of a variety of statistical concepts and model development techniques, such as: generalized linear models, machine learning algorithms, experimental design, stochastic processes, Markov process modeling, and data visualization

  • Experience supporting AML & Sanctions and/or consumer banking preferred but not required. Examples include but not limited to conducting and documenting tuning and optimization activities related to AML/Sanctions and/or consumer banking.

  • Knowledge of SWIFT and ISO20022 messaging standard, transactions filtering, client screening and transaction monitoring preferred but not required

  • Proven experience working with model risk management in the model validation process.

Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research/Data Science/ Computer Science/Statistics/Mathematics/Physics/ Economics required,

  • Masters preferred.

  • MS. degree can be used in lieu of the work experience requirement

Hours & Work Schedule: 3 days in the Office, 2 working from home

  • Hours per Week: 40

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
