The Development Associate plays an integral role in fundraising at Fenway Health by working across development functions including annual giving, special events, and grant writing. The person in this role will often serve as the first touchpoint donors and community members make with Development. The Development Associate will interface with colleagues and community members from across the organization.

Representative Duties:

  • Participate in development of annual appeals including writing, design, and list segmentation

  • Serve as the staff representative to Fenway Health’s Young Leaders Council

  • Interface with donors via virtual and in person meetings to build relationships and tell Fenway’s story

  • Work closely with Communications to find creative ways to tell Fenway Health’s story

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, assignment, and management as needed

  • Provide support with event marketing and communications

  • Support the organization at community events as needed

  • Assist with post-event follow up including donor recognition

  • Provide support for development events, including material preparation and printing, check in, and other logistics

  • Manage a small portfolio of grants

  • Assist in timely reporting to foundations

  • Support stewardship with donors including scheduling meetings, prepping materials, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation

  • Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings

  • Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities

  • Serves on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested

Perform related duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Outstanding writing skills, including the ability to be articulate, persuasive and compassionate in presenting a case for funding

  • Successful experience working in a highly deadline-driven environment

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • 1-3 years’ experience in a fundraising environment

  • Skills in Internet prospecting and research

  • Strong collaborative, diplomatic and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent team player

  • Agility and openness to gain experience in all aspects of development and fundraising

  • Familiarity and facility with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and complete work accurately and in sufficient time for colleague review

  • A passion for the agency mission

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity and facility with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database

  • Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse work environment preferred

  • Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Sit at a computer station for extended periods of time

Salary Description

$23.90 - 29.85 per hour ($46,600-58,200/year)
