The Director, Content DE&I will bring deep expertise in issues of equity, bias, and inclusion across dimensions of identity, to Pearson’s Global Product organization in order to drive systemic change in Pearson’s development of content and support Pearson’s broader culture of inclusion. This position has the opportunity to directly impact courseware for Higher Education that Pearson is delivering in North America and beyond. The role is a position of advocacy that will enhance education and awareness in a community of authors, educators, and editorial professionals while reinforcing key standards and Pearson’s commitment to DE&I.

The DE&I Content team is involved in four critical areas of our diversity, equity, and inclusion higher education content efforts:

  • DE&I Content Quality & Training

  • DE&I Product/Content Reviewing at Scale

  • Customer DE&I Reporting & Content Remediation

  • Global DE&I Content Advocacy (via internal collaborations/external partnerships)

The team supports global DE&I cross-functional group initiatives while serving the Pearson US Higher Education market and disciplines. The role of the Content DE&I Director is managing the DE&I Content Standards team responsible for developing, validating, and communication the highest digital content standards reflective of Pearson’s editorial policy, of which DE&I standards work is included.

A key role for the Director is accountability for establishing, cultivating, promoting, and managing internal DE&I global collaborations and external partnership opportunities. Internal efforts include driving the DE&I Content Standards Team’s presence and standing as the establish hub for DE&I content pilot work, pan-Pearson initiatives, content services, and training for Pearson employees and our vendors. External efforts include tapping DE&I thought leaders, standard-setting organizations, key customers, and services partners to influence and improve our DE&I content quality and our educational base in these critical areas. Bringing these two efforts together to create a cohesive, open, and impactful mission for our DE&I goals is the overall desired result of the new role. Additionally, the day-to-day management of the DE&I Content Standards team, budgeting, planning, goals, and deliverables responsibilities are part of the position remit.

The role of the Content DE&I Director is a high-profile position that requires enthusiasm, agility, creativity, diplomacy, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, the role requires a level of expertise and experience for engaging with our authors, vendors, and colleagues about their work and practices that is educational and collaborative to drive and fulfil our commitment to a fully inclusive product portfolio. The Content DE&I Director reports to the V.P. of Content Standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Manage DE&I Content Standards team to assign, deliver, and report on goals

  • Serve as point person on select Pearson Higher Ed Content Standards initiatives and represent content standards in cross-functional, internal and external partnerships

  • Identify and manage project dependencies and identify resource needs

  • Work with third party vendors, internal stakeholders, and management to clearly communicate the content development roles and responsibilities for each team member and manage the fulfillment of those roles throughout the process

  • Track and distribute critical communication and information in a timely fashion to core teams to reduce confusion, redundancies, delays, and additional expense

  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises and risk, and devise contingency plans in collaboration with the VP of Content Standards and key stakeholders

  • Provide information and guidance to cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with changing Pearson and Higher Ed requirements

  • Adapt a creative, engaging, forward-thinking approach to digital customer-centered problems and solutions

  • Develop a deep understanding of Pearson’s corporate mission, initiatives, and standards and serve as a resource for the Higher Ed team to keep them current on changes in processes, requirements, and standards

  • Identify new third party partnerships and review existing partnerships to establish standards and guidelines for content deliverables

  • Evaluate and negotiate third party content providers agreements to ensure expertise, skill sets, ability to handle volume, quality and consistency of deliverables, samples, successes in the market, agility in handling content and/or schedule changes, and overall fit with Pearson standards and requirements

  • Work with the team to plan, manage, and deliver key digital project content on time, on budget, and within scope

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred

  • Minimum of five years proven experience in DE&I career, educational, and/or advocacy roles including establishing standards, research, training, and policy work

  • Actively engaged with thought leaders, academic communities, policy and standard-setting companies and organizations around the work and issues of DE&I

  • Proven management – teams, resources, and projects success

Required Skills:

  • Ability to understand, adapt, initiate, and implement change required

  • Ability to manage, give direction, receive feedback, and work within a small, collaborative team

  • Evidence of strategic and analytical thinking and planning, team leadership, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, good judgment, and the ability to influence others is required

  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills as well as the ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information effectively

  • Ability to lead and collaborate actively with others on internal and external cross-functional teams and to build consensus and foster collaborative relationships across teams

  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent organizational skills are required

  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail is required

  • Ability to adapt to new software products for course and/or learning experience delivery and learning management systems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, and other content and project management tools

The anticipated starting salary target for Colorado-based candidates expressing interest in this position is $140,000.00. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program.
