Cornerstone onDemand Director, Executive Initiatives in Boston, Massachusetts

We are seeking anexperienced influencer to manage emerging and complex strategic initiatives, related project management and communications, and help evangelize the media and public relations aligned with our Chief Learning Officer (CLO). This role will report directly to our CLO, who is a member of our Cornerstone Executive Leadership team (ELT) and serve as a trusted advisor to the entire Learning function.

As a thought leader or domain leader in the Learning field, this change agent will also partner with cross-functional stakeholders including but not limited to ELT members, with close alignment with Global Marketing, Product Management, Engineering, our People team and additional support functions. A successful candidate will have a strong background in Learning, Learning systems, process and project management, a significant client-first mindset, mixed with varied media and creation skills including technical writing, social media promotions and ideally mixed media production skills.

This role will focus on strategic initiatives (learning tech, learning transformation, maturing nascent work to high-impact programs) and PR/publishing/media efforts evangelizing Cornerstone’s leadership in Learning. All of this again with a keen perspective on how all output and outcomes positively impact our customers.

Key responsibilities:

Define and mature strategic initiatives:

  • Collaborate with the CLO to develop and implement complex programs aligned with Cornerstone’s goals and objectives

  • Support the CLO and Education team leaders in aligning strategic priorities, monitoring progress, and ensuring successful execution of initiatives

  • Present strong recommendations, at times based on limited data and insights, that enable stakeholders to make critical decisions; proactively partner on next steps to drive successful adoption

Cross-Functional leadership and collaboration:

  • Partner closely with teams sharing similar objectives, yet lacking uniform clarity or guidance; i.e. unite common yet disparate effort

  • Develop and implement processes with teams to enhance operating models, streamline workflows, and optimize resource allocation

  • Leverage and influence key Education (EDU) department metrics to ensure sound, evidence-based decisions, identify areas of improvement, and recommend solutions to enhance performance

  • Organize and facilitate processes and operating rhythms of strategic initiatives including leadership meetings, all hands, weekly updates, and year-end business planning for strategic goal setting

Project and Program Management:

  • Lead the objectives, timeline development and deliverables for special, executive projects/taskforces on behalf of the CLO as needed

  • Define project objectives, create project plans, establish timelines, and track progress towards deliverables

  • Provide guidance and support to project teams, ensuring successful completion of initiatives

  • Work across teams to maintain rigor and review of project success against budget and goals, regularly addressing risks, issues, and decisions with the Education Leadership team

Communication and Relationship Management:

  • Serve as a liaison between the CLO and internal/external stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and effective communication

  • Serve as a central point of contact in the Education team to address critical questions and issues impacting department success, and ensure broad alignment across roles and responsibilities—particularly associated with emerging EDU initiatives and external thought leadership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CLO and EDU Leadership team, offering insights, recommendations, and guidance on department matters

  • Develop written communication and presentation materials on behalf of the CLO, tailoring messages according to the audience (e.g., board/executive-level, team-level, public-facing, etc.)

Thought leadership promotion, marketing and publications:

  • Assist with drafting and refinement of thought leadership articles, blogs and related media assets

  • Work closely with our Global Marketing team who will assist with asset branding, tone, public relations and creative services

  • Prepare and provide creative, post-production guidance with video editing and media publishing services—both within Cornerstone and via external creative agencies

Thought leadership research and documentation:

  • Working with the CLO, track key industry trends in Learning and emerging solutions such as AI and GenAI, adaptive learning and more

  • Serve as the team’s guide post or advisor on related industry experts, companies, solution categories, key blogs and publications

  • Provide recommendations on trends and opportunities to further Cornerstone’s thought leadership opportunities

You’ve got what it takes if you have…

  • Bachelor’s degree or related work experience with 8+ years of global experience with specialized skills in Learning and learning technologies and approaches

  • Proven ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and effectively influence cross-functional teams and complex projects concurrently with high degrees of task and deadline pressure

  • Strong business acumen, critical thinking, and quick decision-making skills: able to synthesize business requirements, source and analyze data, build conclusions, and make actionable recommendations while operating in an environment that changes quickly

  • Superb written communication and presentation skills; able to synthesize complex ideas into easy-to-understand concepts, build trust with all levels of employees and management, and support/influence viewpoints in a global, matrixed organization

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment with a deep commitment to the organization’s consideration for privacy and security obligations

  • High levels of energy, creativity, and enthusiasm with a strong sense of personal responsibility, attention to detail, professionalism, discretion, confidentiality, and accountability

Extra dose of awesomeness if you have…

  • PMP certification and/or Change Management Certification

  • High degree of proficiency with social media tools, networking, methods ensuring highest adoption of published assets; similar proficiencies with Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel…)

  • Similar proficiency in multimedia production tools from modeling, design, creation, video effects and post-production

  • Keen fascination and existing practice using GenAI tools such as ChatGPT 4, BARD, text-to-image creation tools etc.

  • Internal or external consulting experience
