Boston University DIRECTOR OF GRADUATE STUDENT SUPPORT, Associate Provost for Graduate Affairs in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development, the Director of Graduate Student Support is responsible for developing and maintaining University-wide partnerships, masters and professional student resources, overseeing strategic projects and communications, The Director is an experienced student affairs leader, well-versed in current trends of higher education, able to identify and respond to emerging needs of graduate students through developing programs and collaborative projects. They also provide expertise in graduate student career development, focused on non-PhD students.

Essential Functions:

Professional and Masters Student Support and Resources (40%): Given a substantial graduate and professional student population and decentralized and uneven support for these students, the Director is responsible for undertaking the creation and enhancement of various student support and professional development initiatives. This includes, for example, creating educational opportunities and web-based orientation modules (e.g. navigating health insurance).

Student Services Liaison and Partnerships (25%): The Director leads the development of and sustains close collaborative relationships with the following offices: BU Virtual, University Housing and Auxiliary Services, the Dean of Students, Student Health Services, Student Wellbeing, the Educational Resource Center, the Center for Career Development, Alumni and Development, Office of the University Registrar, Student Information Systems, and International Students and Scholars Office.

Communication (20%): The Director oversees and conceptualizes strategic communication efforts in Graduate Affairs, including regular updating of the Graduate Education website (and reconceptualizing the website, as needed), developing a communications strategy for student engagement and leading efforts to communicate with graduate and professional students, including through a fall welcome letter and editorial oversight of the Doctoral Digest. The director may coordinate a re-envisioned Graduate Student Advisory Board.

10% - Special Projects: Contributes to and leads special projects in Graduate Affairs identified by the Assistant Provost for Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development or the Associate Provost for Graduate Affairs, including developing new resources or initiatives, or conducting high level data collection or reporting for university leaders.

5% - Supervision: Directly supervises student employees fulfilling data analysis and communications needs as appropriate.
