Thermo Fisher Scientific Director, Portfolio Management - Biologics in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

Leadership role as a member of the commercial team building and maintaining planning and business modeling systems to drive sustained organic and inorganic growth of the Biologics Drug Substance Business Unit. This role will support the growing Contract Development and Manufacturing global network to ensure site capacity models meet customer portfolio short to long term plans for clinical and commercial Drug Substance supply. The successful candidate will provide: Network Capacity Analysis, Portfolio Management and Customer Relationship Management for the Business units network of six sites.

Network Capacity Analysis:

The central component of this role is to establish and maintain global sales and operational planning by integrating existing customer demand with continued new customer growth by leading:

  • Lead global sales and operations planning (S&OP) process at the Business Unit level, to include overall demand analysis to review against site S&OP inputs. Facility S&OP practices will be standardized with focus on customer centric solutions.

  • Support Business Unit Strategic Plan cycle supporting ThermoFisher Scientific''s monthly, quarterly and annual planning. Market analysis of customer long range forecasts will be compared network planned capacity to rationalize capital investment plans to support continued business growth.

  • Tracks and reports achievement in capacity utilization against strategic plans

  • Build capacity planning practices with related business units.

Portfolio Optimization

The outputs of the ThermoFisher planning process will be used to build customer centric portfolio Solutions for capacity availability assurance while maintaining ThermoFisher business objectives. Key actions for portfolio optimization:

  • Identify operational improvement opportunities for site capacity expansion and/or balancing utilization across the manufacturing network

  • Develop strategies for multi-facility supply planning bringing to bear network standards for manufacturing processes.

Customer Relationship Management

Work with Sales and Business Management Teams to develop long term planning processes with customers needing long term understanding of ThermoFisher''s commitments to capacity by:

  • Leading multi-site network business discussions incorporate customer demand planning service level and positive customer experience using ThermoFisher''s 4i values.

  • Developing business models to enable customers decision making for "scale up" or "scale out" based from customer demand outlooks and Cost of Goods sensitivity.

  • Coordinate capacity planning between other Business Units as appropriate and identify capacity challenges with site Business and Project Management teams

Interaction and Influence:

Regularly interacts with internal and external executive level management requiring negotiating of critical matters to the company. The role has significant influence on the business results and is influencing Business Unit wide strategy development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a Technical Focus o MBA preferred.

  • 5-7 years of relevant Operations Planning or Biologics product development experience.
